Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist Principal Investigator (PI) and co-investigators with conducting a project on the evaluation of new strategies to increase water use efficiency under drought conditions.
- Conduct evaluations of soil water holding capacity, organic matter, soil nutrients, etc.
- Design and install automated irrigation systems for different trials of vegetable crops.
- Assist with overseeing connectivity for all aspects and goals of the project
- Write reports and manuscripts for publication in scientific journals. Present research findings in conferences, seminars, and public meetings
- Teach and/or mentor in the field of expertise
- Perform other duties as assigned
- A Master's degree from an accredited college or university of recognized standing in soil science, plant science, or related field.
- Facility in the techniques of the relevant field.
- Accuracy, alertness, and adaptability.
- Ph.D. from an accredited college or university of recognized standing in soil science, plant science or related field.
- Two to four (2-4) years of experience conducting research running numerical models; conducting data analysis; and presenting scientific research results to scientific audiences and general audiences, writing technical reports and manuscripts for scientific publications.
- Knowledge of automated irrigation systems for crops.
- Knowledge of precision farming.
- Knowledge of potential use of cover crops for soil and water conservation.
- Strong record of publication
- Experience in mentoring students at graduate and undergraduate levels
