Example of Duties
The Ocean County Criminal Division is seeking a highly organized individual who demonstrates strong leadership, technical and communication skills. Under the direction of the Court Executive 2b (Criminal Division Manager), or other supervisory personnel, the selected individual will act as a self- motivated lead worker to all clerical staff. The individual will act as the lead trainer and mentor for all newly hired or promoted clerical staff, including, but not limited to, training on courtroom etiquette, all courtroom functions of the clerk, how to complete accurate data entry, and dealing with customer service issues appropriately. The individual will be responsible to teach, train and cross-train co-workers. The individual will assume a leadership role, interacting with others to positively influence and motivate team members. The individual shall maintain manuals and update them as necessary for reference. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to: inform managers about unresolved staff and/or case situations or conflicts; provide training or cross training to co-workers; analyze case processing from intake through disposition; assist the Team Leader and/or Court Executives with monthly statistics regarding the municipal appeal and post-conviction relief calendars; coordinate, analyze and monitor specialized docket caseloads as needed; learn and be able to prepare Judgements of Conviction for Judges when necessary. This individual will respond to procedural and cases status questions from both internal and external customers as well as serve as the expert user with regard to systems such as eCourts, Order Module, ECS and eMACS/ERPO. Provide coverage for court clerks when necessary. Perform other duties as assigned.

Eligibility for Advancement: Eligibility is based upon the applicants having achieved all the competencies for advancement to Judiciary Clerk 4 as listed on the Career Progression Eligibility Form for this title. Applicants for advancement to the Judiciary Clerk 4 title are not required to take a New Jersey Civil Service Commission promotional examination.
Experience Requirement: Three years of experience in an office environment performing a variety of clerical and support services to include keyboarding and one or more of the following: document or information processing, handling payments for fees, recording monies received, reconciling balances or accounts and/or scheduling meetings or appointments.

Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

Residency Law: In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
