Purpose of the role:

The Junior Product Design Engineer will play a pivotal role in the development and enhancement of new products, overseeing the entire process from conceptualization to market launch. The Jr. Product Design Engineer will be collaborating closely with Sales, Marketing, Sourcing/Purchasing, and Quality Assurance, the incumbent will ensure seamless and successful product introductions. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative product solutions and drive impactful change within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Knowledge of Work

• Continually expand your knowledge through the completion of educational courses such as engineering design, 3D modeling, SolidWorks, injection molding, rapid prototyping and manufacturing technology, magnetics, or similar courses to improve productivity.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
• Contribute to tribal knowledge with peers.
• Build and manage a rich library of tools and information that can be used for reference and resources.
• Design experiments to expand knowledge in the field of magnetics and magnetic solutions.

2. Communication

• Effectively listen to others.
• Demonstrate technical writing and verbal communication skills when communicating with technical or engineering clients.
• Simplify and effectively explain complex topics to clients from non-engineering backgrounds.
• Create and present design and engineering change proposals to clients.

3. Engineering

• Model products and create assemblies utilizing SolidWorks.
• Create detailed technical drawings, plans, and parts utilizing SolidWorks.
• Create prototypes as needed to support products development.
• Aid in the development and design of new products and enhancements to existing products, ensuring they meet customer and market needs.
• Aid in Identifying and resolving product development and manufacturing issues, and continuously improve Product Design and quality.
• Create and maintain product documentation including specifications, drawings, user manuals, and assembly instructions.
• Aid in providing technical support and training to Amazing Magnets teams, and customers as required.
• Continually work to identify and acknowledge the bigger picture for customers’ needs.
• Accomplish engineering objectives by planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating products, merchandising, and trade promotion programs.
• Ask why we do what we do, and how we could do it better.
• Continually offer correspondence between the sales team and their clients.
• Perform testing and analysis on internal and external products as needed.

Desired Skills, Experience and Competencies

• Strong technical skills, including proficiency in CAD software, 3D modeling, prototyping, product testing, and tooling design. (Solidworks preferred, with current certification).
• Experience with design for manufacturing (Emphasis on injection molded plastic part design).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to read, understand, and create engineering drawings.
• Ability to read and understand white papers, datasheets, and patents in the field of mechanical engineering.
