Jr. Environmental Scientist

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Environmental Scientist is jr. level position responsible for supporting environmental site assessments, contaminated sites investigation and characterization, remediation, waste disposal, preparing regulatory permit applications, record-keeping, and environmental compliance consulting services.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

         Provide technical support to ACES' senior staff working in our contaminated site assessment/remediation program; hydrogeology; and environmental risk management studies and services and remediation design and regulatory agency consultations

         Taking direction from lead Environmental Scientist/staff to grow skillsets to become a future field and project lead

         Interfacing directly with ACES staff to understand client needs and develop proposals, scope, costs, schedule, and budgets.

         Support preparation of technical reports, proposals, and cost estimates

         Perform routine office activities

         Conduct field environmental assessment (Phase I /II ESA), and compliance activities

         Conduct literature research, compile resource data, and prepare regulatory permit applications, right-of-way applications, and other regulatory documents for various projects

         Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.

         Support ACES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.

         Other duties will be assigned to this position as needs require.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

         Bachelor's degree in environmental science, chemistry, or related field required.

         Ability to spend up to 12-hour workday in remote Alaska conditions over extended periods of time (generally 2-3 weeks at a time)

         Proficiency with MS Office Suite applications required.

         Must have at least 1-3 years of environmental site assessment and/or regulatory permitting experience.

         Become proficient with North Slope Red Book waste handling guidelines.

         Driver's License required.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

         Experience in Alaska Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (APDES) and or oil spill response planning preferred.

         Experience in performing environmental site assessments and remediation design for federally funded projects.

         Alaska DEC qualified Environmental sampler preferred.

         Understand the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process and Geographic Information System (GIS) preferred.

         Alaska North Slope oil and gas field experience.

         North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification.

         OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hr certification.

WORKING ON THE NORTH SLOPE

While working on the North Slope of Alaska, your lodging and food will be provided to you.  All camps provide warm meals and options to grab a quick lunch or snack from the spike rooms.   Rooms vary from single status to shared rooms where your roommate may work the opposite shift.  Wi-Fi and Internet is free and available within the camp.  Services vary depending upon where you are staying; however, most facilities offer housekeeping, self-serve laundry, commissary, mail, gyms, TV/Theater Room, etc.  Each facility will have their own accommodations and policies that will be reviewed upon on-site orientation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

A candidate must be able to meet the following non-exclusive requirements:                                                              

 

         Meet the AES Driving Records and Motor Vehicle Use Policy.

         Take and pass a pre-employment drug test which may include both UA and hair testing. 

         Meet the physical requirements of this position including working in a remote location under arctic conditions.                    

         Required to take and pass a Fit-For-Duty Exam 

         Required to complete and successfully pass a background check. 

         Must be able to obtain and maintain an access badge for the work location.

 

The availability of this position is contingent upon the Company's continued operational needs once training is completed.
