Jr. Designer - Production Assistant
Produces in-house “small batch” production runs of packaging materials on “best in class” CNC prototyping equipment. Provides a competitive advantage to our sales teams by following best practices and SOPs to ensure maximum throughput and quality.
Summary of Role and How You’ll Fit In
In this role you will collaborate and work closely with a team of packaging designers/engineers, generating high quality prototypes and small batch production runs of those designs. Will also work closely with customer service, and/or planning depts. in executing small batch production orders.
This position report to the: Regional Design Manager/Northwest Region
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Key Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Creates sheet layouts (from existing designs) using CAD tools to maximize throughput on proto equipment
- Operates large format HP printer for printed jobs
- Operates Kongsberg CNC cutting table
- Creates/produces overpacking for orders as needed.
- Oversees and directs temp labor required to produce large/complex orders
- Maintains equipment, works with equipment suppliers in performing regular preventative maintenance
- Works with production planning team to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained for consumables
- Maintains quality control of outputs
- Other duties as required
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school graduate or GED equivalent
Additional Required Qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Highly detailed, conceptual thinker, motivated by bringing delight to the customer by producing high quality packaging outputs
- Ability to effectively manage multiple/complex projects concurrently
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 yr. degree in relevant field of study (mechanical/product/packaging engineering etc.)
- Previous experience operating/troubleshooting CNC equipment
- General “hands on” experience with CAD software (ArtiosCAD,Pro-e, Autocad, Solidworks, etc.)
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- 2yrs+ general industry experience (packaging manufacturing, distribution, and/or packaging design experience with a packaging end user or brand owner).
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Must be able to operate/troubleshoot various types of prototyping equipment, as well as lift products that may approach 50lbs.
- Work environment is primarily in-office, working in a new state of the art “sustainable” design center.
