About the Role.
What You’ll Do.
- Perform visual inspections of gas service for leaks.
- Identify hazards at meter sites and report accordingly.
- Properly change out gas meters of varying sizes and brands.
- Properly change out gas meter registers for AMI/AMR upgrade.
- Perform safety checks to ensure proper installation.
Customer Communication:
- Refer all consumer complaints to the appropriate authorities.
- Provide general information about the meter services to customers, when applicable.
- Use telephones, tablets, and/or computers to communicate.
- Other duties as assigned.
About You
- Education: Some High School education, must be 18 years of age or older. Must possess a Journeyman Gas Fitter license, active in the state of Alabama or other states with a reciprocity agreement. Upon hire, the candidate will need to complete and pass all Pipeline Operator Qualification (OQ) training. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Experience: 1-year experience in exchanging gas meters of varying sizes with the ability to properly safety test, troubleshoot, and relight pilot lights on a variety of existing appliances.

- Experience: 3 years of experience in exchanging gas meters of varying sizes with the ability to properly safety test, troubleshoot, and relight pilot lights on a variety of existing appliances.

- Ability to multi-task, and work independently and as a team.
- Exceptional flexibility in daily routines and route scheduling. Must be flexible in times of need, including extended nights and weekends.
- Adequate time management skills to finish daily work promptly.
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable interacting with management and customers.
- Ability to interact with unhappy or negative customers professionally.
- Excellent attention to detail for problem-solving and finding.
- Ability to walk long distances and prepare for weather conditions, accordingly.
- Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
- Place a high value on safety, quality of work, and operational procedures.
This role would not be a good fit if you:
- Do not enjoy working independently
- Do not enjoy working in outdoor conditions
- Do not enjoy walking long distances
- Are not flexible and do not enjoy adapting to your current work schedule or routine
- Do not have adequate planning and time management skills to finish a day's work promptly
Drug/Alcohol Testing:
- Drug/alcohol testing is required.
- Drug/alcohol testing is required per Non-Regulatory requirements for employees working with water, electricity, and meters.
- Drug/alcohol testing is required per Federal DOT regulations for employees working with gas meters.
