The Latin American Youth Center- Maryland Multicultural Youth Centers (LAYC/MMYC) is a not-for-profit organization serving immigrant youth and youth of color in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. LAYC seeks to help youth become successful and happy young adults by providing a comprehensive set of programs to meet youth where they are and help them build the skills they need to succeed and become change agents in their community. This position is listed for the LAYC-MMYC Prince George’s County site. The Job Readiness Coordinator is responsible for implementing Job Readiness training workshops with youth who attend programming at one of our sites on topics including resume writing, interviewing skills, communication, customer service, and conflict resolution. The Job Readiness Coordinator will also identify, develop, and maintain relationships with employers and community resources to create employment and internship opportunities for LAYC/MMYC participants (ages 16-24).

LAYC/MMYC’s mission is to empower a diverse population of youth to achieve a successful transition to adulthood, through multicultural, comprehensive, and innovative programs that address youths' social, academic, and career needs. To achieve that mission, LAYC/MMYC provides services and opportunities to approximately 5,000 individuals annually to support academic achievement, promote healthy behaviors, and guide youth toward successful adulthood. LAYC/MMYC also conducts advocacy and public policy work to broaden opportunities for youth.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Implement relevant Job Readiness curricula for participants to prepare them for job search and employment, covering areas focused on applied knowledge, effective relationships and workplace skills through group and one-on-one sessions.
  • Plan and coordinate guest speakers and field trips (In Person or Virtual) that align with curriculum and enhance the participants’ understanding of career pathways.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers across various industry sectors who will have employment and internship opportunities for youth.
  • Match participants with appropriate jobs and serve as a mediator between employer and youth as needed.
  • Develop and maintain relevant employer outreach materials for distribution.
  • Prepare monthly statistics and narrative reports to submit to the Program Manager.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of all participating youth, job placement, JRT attendance, youth/business satisfaction, outcome completion and retention activities in (ETO) database.
  • Participate in MMYC Prince Georges County team meetings and play an active role to further the goal of job placement and job retention.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • A bachelor’s degree preferred and three-five plus years of youth development experience.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be computer literate with a working knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.
  • At least two years’ experience with group facilitation and workshop design
  • Knowledge of community and local resources in DC and Maryland
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Proficient computer skills, experience with ETO or other data collection system a plus
  • Knowledge of case management, monitoring, and reporting
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Flexible, energetic, positive individual with commitment to youth development in a high quality, respectful environment.
  • Ability to work well and communicate with culturally diverse populations.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of community and local resources.
  • Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings for school events.
  • Complete criminal and child abuse/neglect clearances.
  • Flexible, energetic, positive individual with commitment to youth development in a high quality, respectful environment.
  • LAYC/MMYC requires the COVID-19 vaccine of all its employees. You will be asked to provide proof of vaccination at the time of your interview and at your onboarding.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 10 lbs. May require the ability to travel locally and/or regionally.
