Description

The Job Development Coach will provide training and support to students participating in specific school-to-work transition activities, work programs, and volunteerism in the community.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • The Job Development Coach will facilitate training for students who are involved in the transitional work-training program.
    • The job coach will be responsible for working with instructors to design, implement, and assess job-related skills.
    • Ensure a sufficient and safe level of supervision for each student when in a sufficient and safe level of supervision for each student. Maintain interpersonal communications with community members where volunteer and work opportunities take place.
    • Assist in integrating the academic and vocational components of the program.
    • ensures vocational assessment is done annually. Ensures vocational goals are derived from vocational assessments. Ensures data are collected, graphed and analyzed to support learning.
  • Communicate effectively with school and residential staff to ensure consistency and quality of services provided.
    • Develops and maintains positive interpersonal communications with staff to create a positive social-emotional work climate for students.
    • Stay up to date on best practices in autism education and vocational training. Provide training and resources to students, school staff, and employers.
    • Adheres to all agency policies and procedures.
    • Reports all reportable incidents and allegations of abuse in a timely manner.
    • Completes all required paperwork.
    • Attends and satisfactorily completes all training as required.
    • Attends all required meetings for efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Will work with the Transition Coordinator, Principal, Assistant Principals, Teachers, and Residential staff to ensure that any necessary student needs are met.
    • Share knowledge of students with team members and other professionals to appropriately meet individualized transition goals.
    • Use assessment data, IEPs, behavioral data, and skill progress to identify trends, patterns, and areas where adjustments to interventions should be made.
    • Provide support to classrooms or residences as needed.
    • Maintain detailed records of student progress, assessments, and support strategies, as well as any workplace-related documentation.
    • Conduct ongoing assessments to evaluate students’ academic, communication, social, and vocational skills. Use data to make informed decisions related to curriculum development.
    • Adapt and modify curriculum materials to meet the individualized needs and learning styles including but not limited to visual supports, simplifying instructions integrating, and social skills.
    • Consider sensory sensitivities to create a sensory-friendly learning and working environment.
    • Integrate vocational training and job readiness skills into the curriculum to prepare for post-graduate transition.
    • Implement data tracking systems to track and document student progress toward goals.
    • Provide confidentiality of all individuals served and their families.
  • Complete additional vocational and work-related tasks to fulfill program needs.
    • Prepare materials for program needs (lamination, resource room oversight, special events).
    • Purchasing approved materials for school and work programs.
    • Household and hygiene program (inventory, stocking, filling orders, and delivery to residences).
    • Help identify potential community-based volunteer/work opportunities based on the student's abilities, preferences, and collaborate with potential employers.   
    • Accompany students to their workplace, providing on-site support, guidance, and coaching to help them meet job expectations.
    • Behavior management: implement strategies to manage challenging behaviors that may interfere with job performance.
    • Advocate to ensure accommodations and support services are available that will support an inclusive work environment.
Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Bachelor's degree required. Teacher Assistant/RBT certification preferred.
  • Must have a valid and clean NYS Driver's License and maintain agency driver certification. 
  • Must maintain qualifications in the crisis intervention procedure of the agency.
  • Must keep agency mini-van clean and in good condition and report any vehicle-related issues to supervisor and operations staff.
  • Must be capable at all times of initiating or assisting in all components of the crisis intervention of the agency.
  • Must be capable at all times of assisting occupants in the orderly evacuation of the facility, by both primary and secondary paths in the event of fire and other emergencies.
