Job description


Boulder County Community Services Department is seeking to hire a JET Behavioral Health Screening & Intake Specialist. The JET Behavioral Health Screening & Intake Specialist works in the Boulder County Jail in partnership with other jail teams to screen individuals with Behavioral Health and substance dependence treatment needs. After completing the client screen, this position will connect clients who meet acceptance criteria to jail-based programming. The position includes intakes, assessment as well as supports with case planning, case management and service linkage. Additionally, the position assists in the general operation of the program based on intake and screening outcomes (data collection, data tracking and program evaluation). This position collaborates with and supports other JET staff and the JET Supervisor.

This is a hourly, non-benefited position. This position will work 20-30 hours per week depending on workload between Monday - Friday8:30am - 4:30pm with some flexibility for nights and weekends after training. This position will work out of 3200 Airport Road Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime).
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

2024 Hourly Salary Rate: $23.23 per hour

Tentative Hiring Timeline:

  • Phone Screening: February 9th
  • First Round Interviews: February 14th
  • Second Round Interviews: February 16th
  1. Screen and assess identified individuals for Behavioral Health and substance dependence treatment needs in the Boulder County Jail
  2. Interview and assess individuals (for program readiness, stages of change/motivation) using effective interpersonal skills (compassion, empathy, active listening, summaries, and reflections)
  3. Use and score evidence-based tools to screen for likelihood of mental illness and substance use disorders (MSE, LSI-R-SV, Proxy)
  4. Screening and assessment in all parts of the jail including modules and refer individuals to appropriate supportive jail-based programming
  5. Identify and prioritize screening individuals who most likely meet JET Program criteria; schedule and complete intake/screen
  6. Provide clients with information to connect to partner agencies and community resources, as needed to support the re-entry process
  7. Comfortable with change and ambiguity as each day presents differing client needs
  8. Collaboratively communicate with team and external partners
  9. Collaborate with and support partner agencies such as law enforcement, jail mental health staff, jail medical staff, jail classifications staff and jail program staff to coordinate care for clients
  10. Attend team meetings and case staffings
  11. Complete documentation of screening outcomes, eligibility, referrals and data entry as required by program requirements
  12. Maintain documentation for client charts and data entry for program evaluation. This documentation and data entry will be required as part of daily job function
  13. Effectively track individuals referred, accepted, or denied from services
  14. Maintain data on relevant key indicators to inform success of program and identify opportunities for practice improvement. (Record Pre and Post Survey results for program evaluation purposes; maintain spreadsheets based on intake/screening data to identify client and program needs)
  15. Promotes Racial Equity according to Boulder County's strategic priorities
  16. Performs related work, as required
  17. May be reassigned in emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of 6 years of combined education and experience including 2 years of direct service with Behavioral Health. Additional related education may count towards required experience.


BACKGROUND CHECK & FINGERPRINTING:

  • A job offer is contingent on passing a background investigation with fingerprinting

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in Human Services field
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequently walks, bends, crouches and sits or stands for extended periods of time; by position, operates large vehicles daily and/or conducts home visits, occasionally required to physically pursue, restrain and control minors housed in the Juvenile Center; pushing/pulling meal cart, occasional lifting and carrying; frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard and office equipment; vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and members of the public.
