The Indian Valley Organic Farm and Garden located on the College of Marin, Indian Valley Campus, was created to support and sustain local food systems and organic agriculture, to help educate and develop the local agricultural workforce and to provide fresh and healthy food for residents.
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Organic Farm and Garden internship is paid and includes 1 internship coordinator and 4 participants. (1:4) This internship is intended to provide jobs skills when it's complete. The interns will be treated as employees of The Arc and are no longer on regular day program service. Interns are required to complete Paycom timesheets, have professional workplace behavior, complete Relias training for workplace harassment, and complete the internship from start to finish.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Plant care - such as weeding, watering, fertilizing, pruning, pinching plants for growth, and organic pest management.
- Soil Development - such as sifting soil, eliminating rocks and debris. Maintain composting. Harvesting and Processing - such as cleaning up produce for sale, preparing produce for storage, shipping, and sale at the farm stand.
- General Farm Maintenance - such as cleaning equipment as needed, and repair infrastructure as needed.
- Market Stand/Sales - such as being available Saturdays in the summer for an opportunity to work the produce stands.
MINOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The internship is for five days per week at 5.5 hours per day. The duration of the internship is followed by the College of Marin academic year and perhaps one full year. The internship will include travel training (Marin transit bus), fieldwork, and classroom instruction. Interns will participate in classroom/education time every week. There will be strict attendance and vacation time will be required to approve. Interns will be required to bring lunch on workdays. Only fieldwork hours on the Organic Farm and Garden are paid.

- Are willing to work rain or shine outdoors.
- Do not mind getting dirty.
- Has a desire to learn about Organic Farming.
- Is interested in working in a related job.
- Is willing to wear clothes appropriate for outdoor work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to stand and/or be on hands and knees for extended periods.
- Some lifting may be required.
- Able to meet the requirements of the job duties.
