IUME seeks a Post Doctoral Research Fellow for 12 months, with the possibility of extension. (December 1st, 2023 - May 30, 2025).

Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Expanding Mathematical Futures Through Multimedia Storytelling Project is an NSF-funded study of multimedia mathematics storytelling and its impacts on Black youth through racial/ethnic affinity groups and initiatives, cultural institutions, out-of-school learning spaces, and other educational environments.
We seek a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our research team. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research at the intersection of mathematics education, digital teaching methods, and learning innovation. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work collaboratively with the Principal Investigators (PIs) and research staff during the first year, with the potential for a renewable second year, contributing to programmatic activities and conducting vital research.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborating closely with the PIs and research staff to support programmatic activities.

  • Conducting research activities, including focus groups, site visits, screenings, and interviews.

  • Collecting and analyzing data from diverse sources, such as websites, school partners, and community partners.

  •  Assisting in the assessment of digital and print resources in mathematics education.

  • Participating in regular team meetings and research discussions.

  • Supervising doctoral students on the research team.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completed Ph.D. or Ed.D. in a related field.

  • A doctoral degree in mathematics education, STEM, or a closely related field is required. Candidates should have a strong foundation in mathematics and/or STEM education concepts and theories, including culturally relevant pedagogy, foundations of STEM/STEAM, and qualitative research

  • Experience: Proficiency in digital media, either in teaching or research. Prefer candidates with prior experience working in K12 or afterschool settings, with an interest in mathematics education among youth

  •  Research Skills and Expertise: Research capabilities in education, math education, or closely related field, including the ability to design and conduct focus groups, site visits, and interviews, as well as collect and analyze data from various sources, such as websites, school partners, and community partners.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, including the ability to present research findings effectively

Hybrid/Remote
