IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Homebase Principal
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
EMPLOYMENT TERM: Minimum 200 days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18-5-45; extended employment terms may be established by KCSBOE.
SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with Kanawha County Teacher Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and education level.
EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the homebase building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310 and KCS G48A.
JOB SUMMARY: Provide appropriate instruction to gifted students, and ensure that the students meet the learning objectives and standards for the appropriate grade level while providing enrichment learning activities and opportunities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Designs, delivers, and assesses student learning activities addressing the state adopted instructional goals and objectives and individual student IEP goals.
  • Prepares and implements lesson plans integrating problem-based learning experiences, technology application, learning tools and higher order thinking skills.
  • Accommodates individual learning differences
  • Assigns developmentally appropriate tasks.
  • Organizes teaching strategies to maximize allocated instructional time to increase student learning.
  • Establishes procedures and rules that creates and maintains an environment that supports learning while following established school discipline procedures
  • Encourages and monitors students' attendance.
  • Assists students to develop productive work habits and study skills, enabling communication with parents as needed.
  • Gathers, stores, and monitors data related to student learning for use in assessing progress toward achieving individual student IEP goals.
  • Maintains accurate and complete student records.
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with students, co-workers, parents/guardians, and the community, and exhibits appropriate interactive skills.
  • Follows confidentiality procedures regarding students, parents/guardians, and fellow staff members.
  • Completes IEP case management duties, including IEP development and completion of IEP progress reports
  • Participates in activities that foster professional growth.
  • Is punctual with reports, grades, records and in reporting to work.
  • Demonstrates a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts.
  • Follows assigned schedule that may include travel to additional KCS schools to deliver regular services to kindergarten through eighth gifted students and/or high school exceptionally gifted students.
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specializations and grade levels, pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-2; Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate; Meet the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a.
Experience teaching students of gifted preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60 dB). Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/technical laboratories where the noise levels may be moderate to loud (60-90 dB).
