Do you have experience creating technical documents, developing procedures, and maintaining a source code repository? If so, this position may be the right fit for you! We are in search of an IT Technical Writer/Software Librarian located at our Corporate Headquarters in Lancaster, SC. The IT Technical Writer/Software Librarian is responsible for creating technical documents, instructions, and procedures that are used throughout information technology. This individual must understand the custom development that has been created for the credit union, ensuring that all code is properly maintained in the source code repository.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and maintain the procedures that the development team uses for the source code repository.
  2. Identify and categorize all prewritten code that can be reusable for the development team to streamline and optimize their coding process.
  3. Ensure that all reusable code is identified in a way that all developers can easily find and obtain.
  4. Maintaining the features in the source code repository tool, training new developers on how to access the tool, and ensuring that the software (tools) being used are at the current release level.
  5. Provide training for team members on how to access the library and locate code.
  6. Monitor which code is being reused, and the custom development items that leverage it.
  7. Ensure that all custom development code is checked into the source library and that developers are following the process.
  8. Document the flow of the various components being used in the source code repository including but not limited to the application, adding custom code, and quickly adding on only various components.
  9. Work closely with the code review process to assist in identifying existing code that could be used from the library.
  10. Periodically review with development team the candidates for prewritten code for the source code library.
  11. Create documentation that clarifies the product and features, and benefits.
  12. Perform official code builds form the source code library.
  13. Produce complied programs for the code builds.
  14. Convert proprietary data in a external vendor format that can be used outside of the credit union.
  15. Reviews custom development requirements to ensure that everything that is necessary has been documented.
  16. Collects and interprets technical data or information and transforms it into accurate content for intended audience.
  17. Ensure that team topology is current and up to date.
  18. Follow established change control processes.
  19. Comply with Founders’ policies and procedures, as well applicable laws, regulations, and statutes issued by federal agencies such as NCUA and FFIEC, including, but not limited to, GLB and BSA. Employees have legal and regulatory obligations to respect and protect the privacy of information and its integrity and confidentiality.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications:

The IT Technical Writer/ Software Librarian should possess excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences. They must also have outstanding written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. A comprehensive understanding of the applications used at the credit union is required. Ability to work in a team, present a trustworthy image, and deal effectively with others is required. Ability to understand business issues and processes and to articulate the context of the processes is required. In addition, they should demonstrate the ability to work as part of a project team, coordinate multiple activities, prioritize conflicting demands and meet expected deadlines. Strong organizational skills for gathering and analyzing data in a rapidly changing environment is required.

Within three years, obtain a Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC) or similar.

Due to the critical nature of data security, each employee has the responsibility to protect company data. Employees have legal and regulatory obligations to respect and protect the privacy of information and its integrity and confidentiality. Guidance is contained in the company information security policies. Violations of policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

Adhere to the principle of least privilege to reduce the risk of unauthorized access to critical systems or sensitive data by maintaining account permissions to accounts, processes and programs only required to do the job assigned.

Follow the asset management lifecycle process and procedures to support the efforts in maintaining an accurate and efficient configuration management inventory.

Maintain a knowledge and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the Incident Response teams defined in the Incident Response Plan.

A minimum of three years’ work experience with credit union products utilizing key front office applications is required. A thorough knowledge of the concepts used in testing and verifying data is required. A proven ability to work independently and as part of a team is required. A bachelor’s degree in computer science, accounting or information systems is required.

Candidate must be available Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm. Due to the nature of project deadlines and end of period processing schedules, occasional evening and weekend work will be required.
