Position Summary & Duties Responsible
POSITION SUMMARY
IT Inventory Technician oversees Information Technology inventory and fixed assets by procuring, receiving, and building IT equipment including special builds and fixed assets. Documents, receives, and processes equipment using SAP. Maintains inventory management and County wide asset tracking of computer related equipment. Serves on a team in the Customer Solutions and Services (CSS) division performing a wide range of technical duties to provide effective technological support for Bernalillo County staff. This classification serves as a first or second-level responder and may perform any of the following functions: sets up, maintains, and monitors a variety of information systems including network, peripherals, operating systems, and user applications. Plans, implements, and monitors hardware and software upgrades, patches, and security and backup/recovery processes. Installs, configures, and administers a variety of commercial, off-the-shelf, and internal applications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Verifies purchase requisitions by comparing items requested to BernCo standards, clarifying unclear items, and recommending alternatives as needed.
- Prepares and maintains orders by verifying specifications and price and obtaining appropriate approval from requisitioning department/entity.
- Manages budget for equipment deployed. Acquires quotes, makes purchases, processes receiving of equipment, and reconciles invoices with purchase records.
- Obtains purchased items by forwarding orders to suppliers and monitoring and expediting orders.
- Leads resolution of receipt and invoice discrepancies, product returns, and exchanges.
- Supports, manages, and administers contracts for purchase of IT software, application services, and products across the organization.
- Researches and provides recommendations for new vendor and peripheral alternatives.
- Negotiates pricing, terms and conditions of purchase, and warranties of goods and products with key suppliers and vendors.
- Investigates equipment or software under consideration to determine ROI and total cost of ownership throughout product lifecycle. Assists in forming procurement strategies to optimize technology spend across the organization.
- Monitors and analyzes trends in company spending and inventory control in order to form procurement strategies, make recommendations for the future, and identify areas for possible savings and/or asset optimization.
- Works as backup for Project Managers by managing small to medium projects with low complexity, scope, and budget. Examples include:
- Complexity: about two Vendor interfaces, about three systems required to be integrated, about three stakeholders
- Scope: about five members on the project, about five organizations, about two vendors. Projects that are short in nature, weeks to months in length.
- Budget: around $100K per project

Any one position may not include all duties listed. However, the allocation of positions will be determined by the amount of time spent performing the essential duties listed above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, and two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in functional areas stated above. Any equivalent combination related to education and/or experience totaling six (6) years may be considered for the above requirements.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
- Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
- Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.
- Employee must have a valid New Mexico driver's license by employment date and maintain a valid NM drivers' license while employed in this position.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is typically performed in an indoor office environment, but occasionally requires travel to other locations.
- Work environments may include noise, dust and/or unpleasant odors, and may occasionally require work in confined spaces.
- Occasional evening, holiday and/or weekend work may be required.
