GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Oversee, train, and supervise food services staff to assure quality large-scale food production. Assist in food planning, preparation, and delivery.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
  • Train, direct, coach, supervise, and evaluate the work performance of subordinate staff.
  • Prepare schedules for food services staff.
  • Assist in the implementation of menu cycles, including grocery lists, charting, master production, ordering, menus, and recipe development.
  • Prepare nutritious menus and specialty diets.
  • Assure food production goals are met daily.
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of meals, snacks, and food for special events.
  • Ensure proper delivery of food to the correct resident living areas, including therapeutic diets and altered diet textures.
  • Respond to daily changes in scheduling and production to ensure safe food according to the menu and diet orders.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other departments to achieve Nutrition Center involvement with special food activities.
  • Assist in the proper receiving, storing, and maintenance of food and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Preferences may be given to applicants with two or more years of experience working as a supervisor in a large food services kitchen.

KNOWLEDGE:
  • Ability to organize daily work and materials for food preparation to serve a large number of people.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques to assure safe food production and compliance with therapeutic diet orders.
  • Ability to gauge recipes for the appropriate number of servings required.
  • Ability to use a computer to accomplish communication and work tasks.
  • Ability to perform duties in all areas of the food service kitchen.
  • Ability to safely lift and move heavy objects (requires twisting, bending, lifting, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling).
  • Safely use stoves, ovens, dishwashers, slicers, mixers, and other kitchen equipment as would be expected in a large food service kitchen.
  • Safely work near very hot objects and in very cold locations.
  • Ability to lead, direct, and supervise people and develop a team.
  • Ability to work with and around WLRC residents, including those who may display challenging behaviors.
  • Must pass ServSafe training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience Substitution:
2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Food Service) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Food Service Supervisor

Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Food Services)
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Food Services) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Food Services Assistant

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to stand for a full shift and safely lift and move heavy objects (requires walking, standing, twisting, bending, lifting, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling).
  • Ability to safely use industrial-size kitchen equipment (stoves, ovens, dishwashers, slicers, mixers, etc.).
  • Ability to safely work near very hot objects and in very cold locations.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive a food delivery truck.

NOTES:
  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing may be conducted on safety-sensitive positions. Drug testing may be conducted on any position if reasonable suspicion exists.
