Ipa - Support Staff

About the Intermediate Preparatory Academy: New Mexico Military Institute’s (NMMI) middle grades school, Intermediate Preparatory Academy (IPA), offers a unique curriculum incorporating immersive/intensive and hands-on learning experiences within a structured environment. Currently in its founding year, IPA has an enrollment of about 30 sixth-graders. In Fall 2024, IPA will extend its enrollment to include 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, with a total enrollment of approximately 90 students.

Position IPA Support Staff function as teacher's aides and provide general support to middle school faculty and staff. Working directly as the sole adult lead with groups of students in academic and non-academic segments of the school day, Support Staff maintain a positive environment for student behavior and learning. Support Staff assist and collaborate with teachers and with staff in additional duties. No teaching experience is required. The salary for this position is $20.00 per hour.

Tasks:

· Monitor, supervise, and account for groups of students during lunch and other non-academic segments of the school day, in both indoor and outdoor settings at the school.

· Monitor, supervise, and account for small groups (typically under 12 students) in study-hall settings, including coaching students to stay on task and work through study challenges (no subject knowledge required).

· Assist lead teacher on local field trips.

· Support the Administrative Specialist by performing clerical tasks.

· Other duties as assigned.

· Enthusiastic appreciation for middle school students and their learning.

· Positive approach to student behavior management.

· Willingness to communicate and collaborate with the teaching team and with staff.

Qualifications:

· High School Diploma or equivalent.

· Experience supervising children.

· Clerical experience preferred, but not required.
