Job Statement:

Essential Functions:
- Design and conduct activities and lessons based on Japanese language teaching methodologies. Classes and curriculum vary from program to program, including but not limited to classes in areas such as listening, speaking, reading, writing and Japanese culture.
- Create an environment for active learning and task-based learning.
- Adhere to requirements of incorporating specific objectives and course outcomes for all classes taught in keeping with institutional outcomes and mission.
- Foster a learning community in which respect for multilingualism and multiculturalism.
- Work in partnership with other facilitators in the program.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Japanese, Second Language Studies, Education, or a related field.
- A minimum of one year of Japanese language teaching experience in a secondary and/or higher education setting.
- Knowledge of teaching/learning psychology and methods.
- Well-rounded knowledge of Japanese culture.
- Self-motivated and have a strong desire to pursue and disseminate knowledge.
- Skills to conduct a concurrent classroom (in-person & online)
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's degree or equivalent experience in Japanese, Second Language Studies, Education, or a related field.
- Successful experience in teaching Japanese language to high school students and college students.
- Interest in continuing professional development in Japanese language education.
Physical and Cognitive Requirements:
- Frequent sitting and/or standing.
- Occasional stooping, kneeling or crouching.
- Lift, pull, and push up to 20 pounds.
- Operate a computer terminal and various office/classroom equipment, and communicate by phone.
- Repetitive movement of hands and fingers through typing and/or writing.
- Read, analyze, and interpret written data (text or numeric).
- Synthesize information from multiple sources.
Work Environment:
Works primarily in a modern, air-conditioned office and classroom environment. This role routinely uses standard office and classroom equipment, such as computers, audio/video equipment, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines.
