The Investment Accountant plays a crucial role in the financial health and regulatory compliance of SM Diversity's investments. The right person will need a strong understanding of financial management, accounting principles, investment strategies, and relevant legal and regulatory frameworks. Effective communication and collaboration skills are essential, as this role involves working with various stakeholders, including investment managers, regulatory authorities, and internal teams within the organization.
Breakdown of key responsibilities:- Accounting: The individual in this role is responsible for managing all accounting functions related to the Organization's investments. This includes maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Record Keeping: Proper record-keeping is crucial for financial transparency and accountability. This involves organizing and maintaining records related to the Organization's investments.
- Reporting: Generating regular reports on the Organization's investments is a key responsibility. This may involve preparing financial statements, investment performance reports, and other relevant documentation.
- Investment Management Pools: Support investment portfolios to include overseeing various investment management pools and ensuring their performance aligns with the Organization's goals.
- Contribution Tracking: Tracking and documenting contributions to new funds is essential for accurately reflecting the financial status of the Organization and ensuring that funds are allocated appropriately.
- Compliance and Regulatory Aspects: Staying informed about and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations is critical. This involves understanding and adhering to both organizational policies and state laws governing investments.
- Income and Expense Calculation and Allocation: The role involves calculating and allocating income and expenses associated with the Organization's funds. This is important for budgeting, financial planning, and ensuring funds are utilized effectively.
- Relationship Management: Manage and cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This includes advisors, banks, investment management firms, donors, executives, managers, and other team members.
- Support Investment Committee meetings
- Assist with annual audit and annual budget processes
- Assist in the design and implementation of efficient, effective processes for fund management
- Support treasury management activity, including cash forecasting, payment processing, reconciliation and reporting
- Support investment account maintenance process, including opening/closing accounts, updating online user access and signature cards
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field or equivalent experience
- At least two years’ experience in an accounting, treasury and/or financial analytic role, trust accounting, fund accounting experience is a plus
- Familiar with the non profit fund approach to accounting for investments
- Knowledge of GAAP and other comprehensive bases of accounting, with an emphasis on organizational structures used in investment s such as partnerships and limited liability companies
- Experience preparing and reviewing general ledgers, work papers and financial statements
- Strong initiative, organizational and communication skills and ability to self manage in an ambiguous environment
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Advanced Excel user with ability to keep track of large volumes of investment data
- Naturally inquisitive and like to understand the WHY's
