RESTRICTED TO PERMANENT EMPLOYEES OF THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES WHO HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THEIR INITIAL PROBATIONARY PERIOD WITH LOS ANGELES COUNTY AND MEET THE QUALIFYING REQUIREMENTS.
Current County of Los Angeles' employees in the unclassified service who meet one of the following criteria also qualify to participate in this exam:
  • Unclassified employees who have attained permanent County status on a classified position by successful completion of the initial probationary period, with no break in service since leaving the classified service. -OR-
  • Full-time employees in the unclassified service with at least six months of full-time experience in the unclassified service at the time of filing.

What does an Inventory Control Assistant I do?
An Inventory Control Assistant I performs INVENTORY CONTROL work of a physically strenuous nature and maintains related records within an established procedural framework.
Essential Job Functions
  • Makes periodic and spot field-inventory counts of new and existing supplies and equipment including items which may be difficult to identify from written inventory descriptions.
  • Investigates and identifies differences between existing inventory records and physical inventory of supplies and equipment and writes reports explaining discrepancies.
  • Computes the value of inventory based on price changes or depreciation and adjusts records.
  • Explains INVENTORY CONTROL procedures to line personnel.
  • Moves supplies and equipment, climbs to high places and operates supply handling equipment when counting or checking inventories, as needed.
  • Performs various other duties related to supply and INVENTORY CONTROL activities such as checking and coding documents reflecting stock and equipment transactions, posting such transactions to stock and equipment ledgers, preparing statistical reports reflecting inventory operations, and preparing standard supply and INVENTORY CONTROL documents, as needed.

Minimum Requirements
  • Option I: One (1) year's specialized* clerical experience in bookkeeping at the level of Los Angeles County's Class of Account Clerk I**.
  • Option II:One (1) year's specialized* clerical experience in connection with requisitioning, receiving, storing, issuing, inventorying and inspecting supplies and equipment.
Special Requirement Information
*Specialized clerical experience is defined as performing specialized clerical duties in a defined subject matter area with continuing responsibility for projects, questions, or problems that arise within an area of a program or functional specialty. This requires knowledge of rules, regulations, and other guidelines relating to completing assignments in the program area assigned. Such experience is gained at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Intermediate Clerk, Intermediate Typist-Clerkor higher.
**An Account Clerk I is defined as performing accounting clerical work in the maintenance of accounting records within a comprehensive established framework of procedures, under general supervision.

Employees who wish to qualify using experience gained in county classifications not included in or at the level of those listed above must provide verification of qualifying out-of-class experience by providing official documentation of additional responsibility bonus, out-of-class bonus, temporary assignment bonus, or reclassification study with CEO Classification with your application at the time of filing or within 7 calendar daysfrom the last date of application filing. Out of Class Bonuses, Temporary Bonuses, and Additional Responsibility Bonuses must be approved/signed by the departmental HR Manager or designated representative or will not be accepted. Employees do not need to submit such verification if they hold or have held one of the positions above, or a position deemed to be at equivalent level. Questionable experience will be verified through the departmental HR Manager when necessary.

A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Physical Class
3 - Moderate. This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

This examination consists of multiple-choice and/or simulation assessments, weighted 100%, covering INVENTORY CONTROL methods, INVENTORY CONTROL policies, software programs, numerical calculation, following instructions, achievement, responsibility, safety orientation, and teamwork.
MULTIPLE-CHOICE AND /OR SIMULATION ASSESSMENTS ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.
Applicants must meet the Minimum Requirements and achieve a combined passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible list.
Transfer of Test Components
  • Applicants who have taken identical components recently for other exams may have their responses automatically transferred to this examination.

Eligibility InformationThe names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months.
In lieu of traditional banding, an alternative banding procedure may be employed as a result of a special study sanctioned by the Department of Human Resources, consistent with Civil Service Rule 11.01(D).
