Job Description


Every member of the Team & Family at KIPP Texas Public Schools plays a critical role in ensuring our students have the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose - college, career and beyond. KIPP Texas is seeking a highly motivated full-time Behavior Interventionistwhose main role is to support school processes and build capacity related to student behavior. The Behavior Interventionist will consult with school administrators, general education teachers, and students, in developing and supporting implementation of school-wide, classroom, or individualized behavior management techniques. Consultation may include classroom/student observations, teacher coaching and modeling, assisting with Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), Behavior Improvement Plans (BIPs), and Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports (PBIS).

This position furthers the mission of KIPP Houston as it helps ensure that all students have the tools and the supportive environment they need to learn.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Utilize appropriate assessment and data collection methods to conduct FBAs
    • Applies evaluation data and findings to intervention, instruction, programming, and services through written reports, intervention plans, and meetings/conferences with parents and/or school staff.
  • Contribute to school-wide assessment and data-based practices for socio-emotional, and behavioral domains
    • Serve on and actively participate as a member of school level teams [e.g. All Children Will Learn (ACWL) or Response to Intervention (RtI) teams, Section 504 meetings, and etc.]
    • Assists with the development and/or delivery of staff professional development to support school and district-wide implementation
  • Contribute to progress monitoring and data-based decisions regarding intervention practices for social-emotional, and behavioral domains
  • Engage in consultation and collaboration with school staff, parents, families, community agencies, and providers.
  • Provide assistance to teachers and school administrators in the creation of a school climate that effectively manages student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
  • Contribute to intervention practices for academic, social-emotional, and behavioral domains
  • Contribute to crisis response and intervention practices.
  • Seek professional growth and learning opportunities to advance own knowledge and skill.
    • Seek opportunities to provide professional learning sessions for colleagues and school staff

Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4 year college or university.
  • Experience conducting preference assessments, skills assessments and functional behavior assessments
  • Experience in goal development and report writing
  • Experience consulting with parents, teachers and support personnel

OR

  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional licensure as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP), Licensed Master Social worker (LMSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or professional certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA)
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports (PBIS) in within the framework of Response to Intervention (RtI)
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations associated with the Student Code of Conduct, TEA regulations regarding restraints and the reporting of restraints, and classroom management practices
  • Knowledge of the elements of a Functional Behavior Assessment and a Behavior Intervention Plan
  • Knowledge of a variety of behavior intervention strategies and how to implement them in the classroom
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or other Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training

  • Responsiveness; Follow-up and follow-through with students, families, and faculty members is essential

Additional Requirements:

  • Reliable transportation is needed for travel between campuses
  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Work with frequent interruptions.
