Job Title: Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse (IR RN)

Reports to: Interventional Radiology Manager


Status:
Non-Exempt

Pay: To determine our range, we consider as many of the following data points as are available to us: external market salary survey data, internal data in terms of comparable roles and our budget for the position. What we have posted is our good faith estimate of what we expect to pay: $34-$40 an hour.

Summary: The Registered Nurse at Great Lakes Medical Imaging works as a member of the Interventional Radiology team, reporting to the Interventional Radiology Manager. Role will use their knowledge of nursing, to manage and coordinate the care of patients undergoing interventional procedures. At Great Lakes Medical Imaging patient care is of the utmost importance and we strive to maximize the delivery of quality care. The RN provides individualized care to the patient, family and caregivers and is competent and knowledgeable to provide care to the patient population served. This role performs a variety of tasks beyond nursing duties including; patient calls, documentation, providing response to emergent situations and assisting with both patient and co-worker needs.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Facilitates patient's stay during examination and while in the Interventional radiology department.
  • Contacts patient's prior to their procedure for instruction and preparation; as necessary.
  • Provides pre op calls and evaluation to ensure the patient is a suitable outpatient procedural candidate.
  • Contacts other medical providers and their offices for patient history and records as necessary.
  • Completes a thorough evaluation of a patient's pertinent medical history, documents in patient's chart and retrieves and reviews necessary pre-procedural paperwork.
  • Provides clear and thorough explanation of procedures to patients and obtains informed consent.
  • Provides treatment and care to patients in accordance with the Interventional Radiologist's instruction.
  • Records and administers medications as necessary.
  • Records and monitors vital signs as necessary.
  • Properly utilizes the medical record system to accurately document the procedure from begin to end.
  • Monitors patient post operatively to ensure a successful recovery.
  • Discharges patients with appropriate paperwork and instructions.
  • Provides a follow up call after the procedure to ensure adequate recovery.
  • Re-stocks supplies, orders medications and maintains an order list.
  • Promotes positive work environment with patients, Physicians and fellow employees.
  • Provides nursing assistance to other departments including assisting in accessing mediports, starting IVs and other duties as needed.
  • Administers Tuberculin Testing to the physician or staff as needed.
  • Be responsible for the safe administration, custody and documentation of medications.
  • Ensure that patient confidentiality is respected and that the dignity of the patient is assured and maintained at all times.
  • Observe and comply with GLMI Policies and Procedures and Health and Safety regulations
  • Other duties as assigned.

Necessary Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSRN preferred.
  • Current NYS Registered Nurse license. Current BLS/ ACLS required.
  • Two years of recent conscious sedation experience and procedure experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of nursing principles and standards of care.
  • Critical thinking skills and judgment.
  • Critical care experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented fast paced environment.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • May be asked to lift up to 35 pounds
  • Escorting patients via wheelchair
  • Standing, walking, sitting, keyboard use for long periods of time
  • Ability to listen and communicate with patients face to face or over the phone
  • Will be required to read, write, work in a fast-paced office setting
  • Ability to make decisions and think quickly
  • Must have mental and physical capabilities to perform all tasks listed above
