Job Overview:

The Intervention Coordinator will work within the Special Education and Intervention Programs division on the Intervention Programs Team. The coordinator's work contributes to the Best for All strategic plan through work regarding the Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTI2) framework, supporting student readiness by aligning services or interventions for all students to prepare them for postsecondary success, as well as developing resources, providing technical assistance, and developing and delivering professional development for the professional growth of educators across the state. Additionally, as part of the continuum of services, this position will be responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and expertise in the areas of gifted education across the state. This role will work collaboratively with state and local education leaders, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure that gifted and talented students receive the support and resources to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing guidance and support for the implementation of Tennessee¿s RTI2 framework and best practices for intervention and instructional cohesion.
  • Developing and organizing professional development sessions for teachers and administrators around appropriate intervention, RTI2, and gifted education, including identification, programming, and differentiated instruction.
  • Monitoring trends and evidence of success for all students, such as students with characteristics of dyslexia, English learners, and students with disabilities including intellectually gifted, while providing guidance and creating resources to support districts with the implementation of best practices.
  • Communicating and developing documents to provide state-wide guidance through updates to new or existing resources, such as the RTI2 Manual, guidance related to the Universal Reading Screener (URS), as well as documents related to RTI2, and gifted education within TDOE initiatives and strategic professional development.
  • Working with the Universal Reading Screener to support districts in meeting compliance with the Tennessee Literacy Success Act¿s administration and data reporting requirements.
  • Collaborating with key departmental divisions such as Academic Strategy, Assessment, Special Education and Intervention Programs, CORE, Learning Acceleration, Federal Programs and Oversight, and the Office of General Counsel.
  • Recommend and implement policies, programs, and initiatives to support the education of students across the continuum of supports.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Psychological and Behavior Services to develop resources for identifying and evaluating students in need of additional services across the continuum.
  • Collaborate and seek feedback from stakeholders to support the development and implementation of effective intervention programs for all students across the continuum.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to schools and districts in the development and implementation of intervention for all students across the continuum.
  • Serve as a liaison between the state department of education, schools, and other organizations involved in intervention for all students across the continuum.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to intervention, RTI2, and gifted education.

Required Experience:

  • 4 years of experience in teaching or supporting instruction with Tennessee¿s RTI2 framework with experience across a varied demographic of students with a variety of learning needs

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a bachelor¿s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Experience equivalent to four years of full-time teaching
  • Substitution of Graduate Education for Experience: Graduate coursework from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of two years.

Other Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master¿s Degree, Ed.S., Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, Literacy, Elementary Education, or Intervention, Curriculum & Instruction
  • Gifted endorsement or gifted employment standards
  • Experience with multiple grade levels
  • Instructional or supervisory/administrative work
