Interpreter (Spanish)

SUMMARY
Listens to, understands, and translates spoken or written statements from one language to another. Provides interpretation services both in office and at client home or residential facility to assess the current medical and social service needs of a client to facilitate their continued residence in a community-based setting. Performs all duties in a manner that fosters the achievement of the organization's mission to identify choices and provide services to help people of all ages, abilities and incomes to live at home.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Facilitates effective communication face-to-face, and by telephone between two parties that do not speak a similar language by converting one spoken or written language to another. If applicable, translates spoken communication to sign language for hearing impaired audience.
2. Assists Care Managers with translating monthly monitoring calls and attends in-person home visits.
3. Relays concepts and ideas between languages.
4. Identifies and resolves conflicts related to the meanings of words, concepts, practices, or behaviors.
5. Edits and proofreads text to accurately reflect language. Utilizing dictionaries and glossaries for reference to ensure accuracy.
6. Translates materials, monthly letters and informational brochures into another language.
7. Reads aloud documents in a language other than that in which they were written.
8. Assists with providing clarity on forms and paperwork for clients.
9. Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

• Bi-lingual/Bi-cultural in language/culture other than English/American.
• Strong communication skills in both English and the language for which interpretation to and from English is required.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of different cultures and customs, as well as comfort working in all socio-economic situations.
• Flexibility to deal calmly with unexpected and difficult situations.
• Ability to efficiently organize workload.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Work Environment (a brief description)
Work is performed primarily in an office environment but may also include visiting client homes, hospitals, nursing homes and other locations. Contact with staff from other departments likely. By nature of work assigned, may be at risk to BBP exposure. PPE may be required for some duties. Some exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions when traveling. Some exposure to loud noises and noxious odors.
