This position is part of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. The incumbent will interpret for Deaf/hard of hearing employees engaged in highly specialized meetings, seminars or training programs that utilize technical terminology unique to specific fields including but not limited to information technology.Qualifications: You may qualify at the GS-12, if you fulfill the following qualifications:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service:
- Broad range of experience in Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing in order to identify barriers and resolve difficult cultural, linguistic, and communicative problems between supervisors and deaf/hard of hearing employees.
- Knowledge of the American with Disability Act, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and other civil rights laws as they apply to individuals who are deaf and hard-of hearing to assist management in the development of guidelines specific to the implementation of Sign Language training.
- Experience with current federal and state laws related to individuals with disabilities in general, and specifically to person who are deaf and hard-of hearing in order to advise management on requests that may be accommodated outside the formal process.
- Fluent experience to interpret from ASL to spoken English and vice versa.
