Summary of Position
The Internship Program Lead is responsible for coordinating all aspects of internship employment programs within the Workforce Advancement Division. These programs place client interns into paid work experiences. The Internship Program Lead partners with agencies and community employers to develop and execute paid work experience for clients in which they can obtain job skills. This position develops and implements a comprehensive job readiness training program for interns in preparation for placement within the programs. The Internship Program Lead promotes Goodwill’s mission and achieves long and short-term goals and objectives, expands resources and ensures quality in all service areas.
Job Description
Role and Responsibilities
- Recruit and train client interns in preparation for placement into internship work programs.
- Manage site development, placement, supervision and retention of all intern program participants.
- Achieve programmatic success through development of client training programs.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community employers resulting in internships and job placements.
- Fulfill employer internship placement needs with qualified, job ready clients.
- Provide coaching and support to client interns as necessary.
- Utilize intervention skills to de-escalate crisis situations.
- Deliver organizational and program metrics.
- Select, train and assign job coaches to training sites in accordance with their skills and experience working with clients.
- Accurately document client progress and enter payroll data into required databases; collaborating with Accounting and Human Resources as needed.
- Monitor and adjust monthly expenditures to keep expenses in line with the budget.
- Maintain data entry requirements for outreach and program goals.
- Provide guidance, support, and serve as a resource to interns through internship site visits. Refer clients to Career Advancement Training (CAT) classes, Case Management, or external referrals to support client needs.
- Participate in and contribute to community collaborative and inter-agency discussions that further the Goodwill mission and client goals.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Vocational Rehabilitation, Human Services, Education, or related field.
- Minimum 1 year experience working with clients in employment counseling, placement, education and human services, working with socially disadvantaged individuals (e.g. Homeless, Ex-offenders, and Low Literacy etc.) and individuals with disabilities.
- Must possess understanding of marginalization and how it impacts those Goodwill serves and employs.
- Exhibit respect for diversity of thought and have experience to advance it in teams/organization.
- Experience working one-on-one with individuals to address job behaviors.
- Proficient in oral and written communication skills, including interviewing skills.
- Knowledge of Goodwill services, community resources and business networking.
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and other Social Media applications.
- Valid Driver’s License, good driving record, liability insurance, vehicle in good working condition to travel on work related business.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear.
- Ability to cope with and tolerate moderate levels of stress is also a necessity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
