We are offering a 3-month Geometallurgical intern summer internship at Rio Tinto Kennecott based in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Geometallurgical Intern would join the Kennecott Technical Services team. Reporting to the Senior Mineralogist, this role would provide critical support in the effort to ensure the integrity and availability of ore body information related to throughput, recovery, and concentrate quality - both in the ore body and stockpiles. This role is highly multidisciplinary and will work with teams across the full value stream to maximize benefit and minimize risks as it relates to the ore body.

About the role

- Interact with Geologists, Mine Planners, Metallurgists, Lab Personnel, and others to understand ore characteristics and performance in downstream plants.
- Learn sampling methods in a concentrator and work with data interpretation
- Support the collection of various samples to be analyzed and metallurgically tested
- Support the geomet team on special projects as required
What you'll bring
- At least one year completed in a Bachelor or Master's of Science Degree in Geology, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Experience with basic data analysis
- Understanding of geologic data (lithology, mineralization, alteration, etc.) and metallurgical data (recovery, throughput) is preferred
- Ability to work in multi-functional and multi-disciplinary teams and deliver measurable outcomes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization
