POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting directly to the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, this position will play a pivotal role in supporting internal communication strategies that facilitate engagement, transparency, and alignment among our staff members. Has access to protected healthcare information (PHI) or confidential identifiable information (CII), both paper and electronic, as necessary, to perform related job duties and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborate closely with the Akin leadership team and subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop internal communication in alignment with the agency’s mission and values.
  • Edit, draft and disseminate clear, timely, and accurate communications to staff ensuring consistent messaging across internal communication channels.
  • Assist in managing internal communication platforms, such as intranet systems and newsletters, to facilitate effective communication and information sharing among staff members.
  • Support the coordination of internal meetings, providing assistance in organizing communication materials, facilitators and logistical arrangements.
  • Gather feedback from staff regarding concerns, questions, or suggestions, contributing insights to refine communication process and foster a sense of continuity.
  • Maintain an organized editorial calendar, track communication initiatives, and ensure ongoing delivery of messaging to the appropriate audiences.
  • Provide administrative support, including database management, file organization, and meeting coordination related to agency communications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent written communication skills, capable of crafting clear and impactful messages in English and Spanish for diverse audiences during periods of organizational change
  • Able to meticulously review content and correct grammar, spelling, punctuation and syntax errors to ensure consistency in language and style
  • Proficiency in communication tools and platforms, including intranet systems, audio-visual platforms, email marketing software, artificial intelligence platforms, and content management systems
  • Detail oriented and adept at planning and coordinating successful events
  • Strong organizational skills, capable of multitasking, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced nonprofit setting during and after the merger
  • Excellent listening and inquiry skills
  • A collaborative and proactive approach to work, demonstrating adaptability and resilience during periods of organizational change
  • Proficient in MS Office and other software used by the agency
  • Strong project management skills
  • Nonprofit sector experience

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This job is performed in a professional office environment. The following list is representative of the work environment employees encounter while performing the essential functions of this job:

HYBRID WORK ARRANGEMENTS:
Hybrid work is a benefit of Akin’s flexible workplace but cannot be offered for all positions. Some positions require daily presence in the office. Hybrid work arrangements may be adjusted or rescinded based upon business needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard; occasionally to reach, stoop and kneel

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience in a communications-related role, particularly in Internal Communications within a nonprofit or relevant field
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish; able to communicate effectively and accurately in both languages, demonstrating a strong grasp of grammar, vocabulary and cultural nuances
  • Completion of Akin’s criminal history background check

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field
  • Proven background as an editor.

*This is a hybrid position that is based within Washington state.*

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:
The full salary range for this position is $85,000-$100,000. The starting salary range for this position is $85,000-$90,000 DOE.

Employees (and their families) are covered by medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Employees will also receive 10 days of vacation leave each year, three employee appreciation days each year, and will accrue one sick day per month. Employees will also enjoy 14 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. We also offer EAP and mental health benefits.
