Internal Communications Manager - Office of Strategic Communications - Georgetown University
Job Overview
The goal of Internal Communications is to increase stakeholder understanding of the university's positions and aspirations. The Internal Communications Manager (ICM) works across the university to increase awareness, understanding, and connection to the university leadership among members of the university community, fostering an internal culture of transparency and shared understanding.
They design communication plans to effectively communicate university messaging around strategic initiatives; and coordinate with university leadership, especially in university services, to ensure accurate and timely communications of university positions to internal and external audiences. Toward these goals, the ICM takes the lead in drafting communications in the voice of university leaders to students, faculty, staff, and the Georgetown community.
Additionally, they act as a central resource for sharing best practices about newsletter distribution and event promotion, actively supporting nearly 200 events + communications professionals across the University.
Work Interactions and Mode of Work Designation
The Internal Communications Manager works as a deputy to the Director of Internal Communications and Operations Communications within the Office of Strategic Communications to effectively communicate and protect the university brand and position.
Through strategic planning and collaboration, they contribute to the university’s communications strategies by generating increased visibility and awareness of the university's objectives, goals and positions.
As well, they have a key role in Internal Communications for senior leaders of the university and for departments within University Services - specifically Finance, Auxiliary Services, Facilities and Student Affairs - on Strategic Communications to the university community.
This position has been designated as Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related field of study
  • At least 3 to 4 years of experience in public relations, journalism, broadcasting, higher education, non-profit institution or related area
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Demonstrable interpersonal skills, flexibility, good judgment, an eye for detail, and ability to exercise diplomacy
  • Ability to manage a high-volume of communication initiative at the same time, meeting both regular and tight deadlines, and working under pressure
  • Willingness and availability to work evenings and weekends
