The "2024 Chicago Headquarters" internship program will focus on the Construction Equipment Products and Solutions.  Our products and solutions support the infrastructures from the development of new towns or planning for urbanization, our extensive lineup of products and solutions help create a sustainable and thriving future.

Key Job Responsibilities

Komatsu America Corp. (Chicago O'Hare, IL) has a great internship opportunity for a college student focusing in an Engineering / Technical or Business Marketing related field of study. Students applying should be a Junior (Target December 2024 or May/June 2025 graduate) or Senior (Target December 2023 or May/June 2024 graduate) standing in their respective program.

 

Technical Systems Mgmt., Mechanical/Automotive Engineers, Agricultural Mechanization or Technical Sales majors preferred.

 

This intern will be immersed in an intense, highly structured learning environment where the candidate can assimilate to the Komatsu culture and make an important contribution during a targeted 12 week internship.

 

Please note this internship will NOT have design engineering responsibilities.

 

Key Job Responsibilities:

1. Learn Komatsu culture (Komatsu Way, Kaizen, PDCA) and business model as demonstrated by completing and presenting a professional proposal for improvement.

2. Complete a Product Marketing Rotation that may include:

Competitive analysis for specific products

Conduct customer and distributor visits with Product Manager and issue trip report

Support the development of promotional material for new models (spec sheet, bulletins, marketing news)

Support product and distributor training with the Product Manager

Conduct competitive price analysis and research for either new products, or specific options. Utilize SWOT analysis.

Support competitive testing (if applicable)

 

Qualifications/Requirements

1. Education: Must be at least in Junior standing in an Engineering / Technical or Business Marketing program at an accredited college/university. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0+ and be able to apply their academic background to real business world experiences.

2. Experience: Prior experience with work study programs, school or volunteer leadership roles, participated on teams

or in clubs, professional organizations, etc. preferred.

3. Soft Skills: Must have Excellent written and verbal communications. Ability to multi-task, manage multiple deadlines

and work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, ability to handle pressure. Strong motivation to make contributions to Komatsu and strong motivation to drive results. This intern must have an interest in capital goods / heavy equipment in the construction and mining industry. 

4. PC Skills: High proficiency in Microsoft Office specifically with PivotTables, VLOOKUP's and other reporting tools. Must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

5. Travel: This internship may require some travel.

  • Individuals that have an interest in working onsite in the Chicago Headquarters (Chicago O'Hare) office at least 4 days a week (4 days are highly encouraged for a productive summer).
  • Individuals that are able to be a team player, open to learning and collaborating with all Komatsu employees.
  • Individuals that value a productive "summer experience".
  • Individuals that are able to join the Komatsu team in May 2024 and commit to a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer (there is potential for interns to start December 2023 for students who are interested).  Must have minimal conflicts (time off such as vacation, personal time off, etc.) during the summer.
