This is a paid internship at our South San Francisco headquarters. The program is for approximately 10-12 weeks beginning in late May/early June.
Job Description:
The Medical Affairs Internship Program is designed to expose the Intern to a broad range of Medical Affairs activities in a small biopharmaceutical company. The Intern will have substantial ownership of projects, opportunity for cross-functional interactions, and exposure to the broader organization. In general, the Intern will interact with Cytokinetics colleagues in cross-functional areas that may include (but not are limited to) Medical Affairs, Marketing, Commercial Development, Regulatory Affairs, Health Outcomes and Economics Research.
The Intern will be introduced to core Medical Affairs activities within a biopharmaceutical industry setting, attend cross-functional meetings, and meet with various colleagues to understand their functions. By the end of the rotation, the Intern will have a foundational understanding of the Medical Affairs function. They will also have the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary meetings and develop their presentation and communication skills though journal clubs and other venues.
The intern will be asked to work independently on assigned projects and perform activities, which may include, but are not limited to:
- Evaluate and present at least one journal club article as designated by the Sponsor
- Conduct literature reviews and present findings on topics as designated by the Sponsor
- Give a presentation or conduct a project related to Medical Affairs assigned by the Sponsor
- Conduct informational interviews to learn about other departments in a biopharmaceutical company
- Attend publication planning, congress planning, Medical Affairs, Lunch & Learns, and other ad hoc meetings designated by the Sponsor
- Assist in the development of medical and scientific materials, e.g., literature repository, medical educational slide decks, etc.
- Assist in preparations for national medical meetings (e.g., support the collection, assessment, and communication of key medical insights from meetings to the broader Cytokinetics organization)
- Assist in the retrieval, analysis, and interpretation of scientific literature to provide medical information in the form of standard response letters to external healthcare professionals and other medical information activities
Requirements:
- Must be a graduate level student currently enrolled at an accredited institution in an advanced degree program in pharmacy, medicine, or other healthcare / life science curriculum with at least 1 or 2 years completed.
- Must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA (B average).
- Proficient in Microsoft programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrates initiative and the ability to maintain a high level of productivity with minimal supervision.
- Must be deadline driven and have a high level of organizational and planning skills.
- Proven ability to work well in teams and effectively manage multiple assignments and activities simultaneously.
- Exhibits strong analytical, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills including the ability to present ideas clearly and concisely.
- Excellent ability in searching medical literature and interpreting scientific / clinical trial data.

Hourly pay range: $22-45/hour. Actual pay at the time of hire may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant qualifications, skills, and experience, as well as the service line and location where this position may be filled.
