Intern - Legislative Session

Under the direct supervision of Executive leadership, the Intern will represent SRTA through a variety of tasks and responsibilities during the 2024 Legislative Session. The intern will work closely with SRTA agency leaders during the 2024 Legislative Session. Duties include but are not limited to, attending various committee meetings and events at the Capitol during the Georgia General Assembly as conducted by the House of Representatives and the Senate, tracking legislation brought to the General Assembly floor, conducting and assisting with research, providing legislative status updates, creating communications updates and reports, and other duties as assigned by Management.

This Internship is an excellent opportunity to gain insight, practical knowledge, and valuable hands-on experience in the public sector while learning about state government from the agency perspective through the legislative process, the inner workings of public administration, policy formulation, inter-agency interactions, and the General Assembly.

 

The anticipated duration of this Internship is for the 2024 Legislative Session.

 

The anticipated date of start for this Internship is early January 2024.

 

Job Responsibilities

• Attend various assigned committee meetings and legislative events.

• Watch the House and Senate proceedings.

• Conduct and assist with research.

• Provide legislative status updates.

• Create communications and reports.

• Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

• Effective communicator, with an emphasis on written and oral communication

• Self-motivated, good organizational skills, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, and multi-tasker. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

• A college/university graduate student currently pursuing a degree in Public Policy, Government, Public Administration, Political Science, or a related field.

• GPA of 3.0 or higher

• Must be attending a Georgia college/university. 

• Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

• Availability to work up to 29 hours per week

• Strong interpersonal acumen, excellent communication skills, and attention to detail

• Ability to work in a team environment while equally working independently to complete assigned tasks

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous Internship or related experience in the public sector is a plus.
