Form of workAre you looking for an internship opportunity that will provide the tools and training to help build a smarter, more sustainable future? Itron, the global leader in meter manufacturing and smart city solutions, is seeking an intern to support Firmware Development and testing.
This intern will collaborate directly with an experienced team of engineers and developers. This position will allow you to gain real world experience in the smart grid while working with a global organization that utilizes the latest technologies. If you are curious, coachable and able to energetically pursue a plan to completion, we would like to learn more about you!
Duration: Summer Internship will run approximately 10-12 weeks, with employee working 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Potential to continue into the fall term on a modified schedule.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with engineering staff to develop firmware
- Support development and running of tests and simulations
- Create test reports and experimental reports for engineering staff to review
- Work on root cause analysis with engineers to identify next steps for "Maintenance of the line" and new product design activities
- Create prototypes of firmware solutions for review by team.
- Write firmware and develop test tools in software such as C, C++, C# and Python
- Create and complete firmware test plans and reports
Required Skills & Experience
- Education: Enrolled in a related bachelor's degree program (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, preferred). Including completion of two years of college level coursework.
- Ability to use Microsoft suite of software: Excel, Word and PowerPoint, at an intermediate level
- Understanding of embedded firmware and familiarity with electronic circuits
- Ability to code in C and C++
- Professional workplace communication skills
- Ability to work on site in Waseca, MN, with flexibility for hybrid work.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Ability to code in C# and/or Python
- Testing experience
- Prior related experience: work, academic, volunteer and/or research
