Sidwell Friends School, a co-educational Quaker day school, seeks an interim Middle School 7th and 8th Grade Math teacher who genuinely appreciates and actively supports the Quaker philosophy that underlies our school.
Reporting to the Middle School Principal, this role is primarily responsible for teaching four sections of advanced PreAlgebra and advanced Algebra; advising a group of 7th and 8th Grade students; assisting with writing student reports at the end of the year; effectively communicating and collaborating with students, colleagues, and families; attending meetings; and collaborating with colleagues from other disciplines in the Middle School and other divisions.
Qualifications & Requirements
- A bachelor's or advanced degree is required, preferably in Math or Education, and must be conferred by the position's start date.
- Active CPR certification or can quickly obtain one.
- Experience teaching Math, preferably courses related to PreAlgebra and Algebra.
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of the needs of Middle School students.
- Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively with a group of adults in a team setting.
- Demonstrates the ability to understand the age group and be excited about working with children from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work in-person Monday - Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
This position is based on the Washington, D.C. campus and will begin on March 4, with potential overlap with the current teacher. The person in the interim role will teach classes independently from when the current teacher goes on leave through Friday, May 10.
