Department:  CORRECTIONS

Pay:  $2,490.30 bi-weekly  

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 - 5pm

Administrative position leading, managing, directing, and supervising corrections case work in either a corrections treatment residential facility or a nonresidential environment and supervises a staff of subordinate employees engaged in corrections activities within the Department of Corrections.

 

Performance Management - Interviews, hires, instructs and trains in proper methods; completes payroll; may initiate disciplinary actions for staff members who violate policy and procedures. Supervises, mentors, and guides Intensive Supervision Officer I/IIs in performing client intake functions, case management, client supervision and rehabilitative work; plans, schedules, and assigns work to staff; assists in establishment of client case plans; identifies community resources to meet the client needs; establishes priorities, instructs and trains in correct methods; checks and approves time and mileage sheets and leave requests; reviews and evaluates employee performance. Ensures that staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures.

 

Quality Assurance - Conducts regular Intensive Supervision Officer case management and client supervision team meetings to provide information on policies and procedures, reviews information on client behavior and discusses any problems or concerns; reviews information on client behavior and discusses agency responses with Intensive Supervision Officers. Reviews, edits, and approves all correspondence with the Courts; audits client files to ensure all necessary paperwork has been completed; appropriate case plans have been developed; and that files contain adequate documentation of client activities and progress; ensures compliance with rules and regulations.

 

Team Management - Monitors court docket to ensure that all Intensive Supervision Officers are informed of and prepared for court hearings; approves warrants written by Intensive Supervision Officers and checks the legality of all allegations contained in the warrant. Explains applicable laws, regulations, and standards of behavior to clients to elicit acceptable client behavior; interprets rules and regulations for clients. May deliver training classes and cognitive skills groups to clients; trains staff to improve service delivery, cultural competence and motivational interviewing competence at the program and/or departmental levels. Performs work as an Intensive Supervision Officer I/II when required. Serves as a supervisor on-call for a 24-hour period when assigned and may make home visits to check on clients. Compiles and prepares monthly statistics and reports.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice or a related field. Transcript verifying education credits is required. Must be at least 21 years of age. Three years of experience in probation, parole, social casework, counseling or related work with juvenile or adult justice system involved clients. Professional references are required to verify the related work experience. Valid Driver’s License and good driving record that meets the requirement of Sedgwick County Fleet Operation and Usage Policy. Personal vehicle for use when county vehicle is not available (employee reimbursement is provided by County). Proof of liability insurance required on personal vehicle. Pass legal background check, Child and Adult Abuse & Neglect Central Registry checks, KCJIS Security Policy (fingerprint) check, and pre-employment screen for alcohol and drugs. Must also meet the required conditions contained in KSA 65-516 and KAR 28-4-356. Must meet minimum levels on pre-employment testing of keyboarding/typing 30 wpm. Ability to learn and conduct/facilitate behavioral cognitive groups within the first 4 to 6 weeks of the initial probationary period.
