Utah State University’s Technology Transfer Services (TTS) office is currently seeking a highly organized and motivated individual to join our team as the Intellectual Property Coordinator. TTS works closely with academic, government, and industry partners to facilitate transferring USU’s cutting-edge technologies to the world and creating economic and societal benefit from these innovations. This individual will be an integral part of our team tasked with the development and execution of strategic and tactical technology transfer plans for USU Intellectual Property.

 

The Intellectual Property Coordinator will interact with faculty, staff, students, industry leaders, legal counsel, and other stake holders to help ensure USU innovations and technologies are protected and transferred to the market and the world.

 

The Intellectual Property Coordinator will ensure USU complies with its Intellectual Property reporting obligations and maintain the accuracy of USU’s patent and agreement data. Reporting to the Executive Director of TTS, the TTS Intellectual Property Coordinator will provide direct professional support and ensure compliance requirements are satisfied in all aspects of the technology commercialization process.

 

The successful candidate will have responsibility for docketing accuracy, commercial compliance, and completeness for all documents received from the USPTO, outside counsel, and company partners. The candidate must maintain strong working relationships with many different internal and external constituencies daily and be the point for coordinating efforts to track, monitor and manage license agreement compliance.

 

This position is telework eligible within the state of Utah. Telework outside of the state of Utah is subject to review and approval by the University prior to a job offer being extended.


  • Administers, updates, monitors, and audits USU’s IP tracking database.
  • Manages and analyzes Intellectual Property related agreements with external partners (license, non-disclosure, material transfer, inter-institutional, etc.).
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for Intellectual Property operations and advises department leadership.
  • Oversees and manages the tracking of invention disclosures.
  • Coordinates Intellectual Property protection with outside counsel.
  • Manages federal reporting and compliance for university Intellectual Property.
  • Prepares and collects signatures for all Intellectual Property related documents and agreements (e.g. Information Disclosure Statements, declarations, assignments, etc.).
  • Identifies and facilitates communications and meetings with and notices to university inventors.
  • Collects data for and prepares standard department reports.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree plus two years of experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Intellectual Property data bases (i.e. Sophia, Inteum, etc.)
  • Experience with federal reporting and compliance (e.g. i-Edison).
  • Experience working with Intellectual Property in a law firm or technology transfer office setting.
