Summary:
The Inspection Assessor will provide operational and programmatic support to the Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) for the Engineering Department, specifically Inspecting Combat Systems, RADAR systems (Transmitter, antenna, signal processors, Computers and Display systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform inspections and observe operations of systems and components to determine existing conditions and document deficiencies/discrepancies in support of inspections and surveys to determine fitness for further service.
- Conduct material inspections and surveys of ships and service craft to determine the material readiness of vessels.
- Conduct environmental protection and NAVOSH oversight inspection of naval vessels, including equipment, program compliance, and training.
- Prepare for inspection by reviewing the most current assigned INSURV inspection guide(s), the ships equipment configuration, and preventive maintenance system (PMS).
- Submit timely, accurate, and candid assessment findings.
Required Qualifications:
- At least ten (10) years of experience in the Navy or supporting Navy Surface Ships.
- A minimum of a HS Degree or GED required.
- Pursuant to the various government contractual requirements, all applicants must be U.S. Citizens.
- Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
- Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax, and other office equipment.
- Experience should include inspection, operation, and testing expertise in the following mission area:
- Combat Systems - RADAR systems (transmitter, antenna, signal processor etc), computers and display systems , AEGIS RADAR system (all baselines), AEGIS fire control system (all baselines), AEGIS computer and display system (all baselines), Vertical Launch System, handling equipment, launcher control unit, BMD systems, AN/SLQ-32, Decoy Launching System and Joint Tactical Terminal, AIMS MK-XII IFF, Tactical Air Navigation System and Cooperative Engagement Capability, classified and unclassified networked systems and applications, CENTRIXS and Secret Releasable Networks, Global Maritime Control System-Navy, Battle Force Tactical Network; navigation systems, Tomahawk and Harpoon Missile systems; weapon systems magazines and magazine sprinklers; 25MM gun systems, Light Weight Gun Systems, MK160 Gun Fire Control System, AN/SPQ-9 Radar; Close In Weapon System, Rolling Airframe Missile, SeaRAM, Skipbox; AN/SQQ-89/90, AN/SQS-53, SONAR Dome Pressurization System, and Multifunction Towed Array/Tactical Towed Array SONAR System; Surface Vessel Torpedo Tube, Torpedo Setting Panels, Torpedo Handling and Strike down equipment, VHF/UHF/UHF/EHF and SHF communications systems, antennas, EMI/IMI and associated baseband equipment; Ship Wide Interior Communications Systems (SWICS); and mine warfare equipment (AN/SLQ-38, HPU's, AN/SQH-4B, AN/WQC-2, AN/SSN-2, AN/SSQ-94, AN/SQQ-32, AN/SLQ-37/48/60).
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Fifteen (15) years of experience in the Navy or supporting Navy Surface Ships.
- Previous technical services as an inspector reviewing testing, test plan generation and inspection and assessment procedures for in-service U.S. Navy ships, crafts, MSC, and other government-owned ships, e.g., U.S. Navy Board of Inspection and Survey, Afloat Training Group, TYCOM Assessment Team, etc.
- Certified Master Training Specialist
ADA Notations:
- Regular communication (hearing/speaking).
- Noise conditions range from very quiet to very noisy.
- Prolonged use of computer (typing/keyboarding).
- Frequently required to sit for long periods of time, stand, and walk.
- Ability to work in an industrial shipboard/shipyard environment, climb shipboard ladders and wear all required safety equipment. Able to lift (up to 50lb), carry, and transport heavy equipment and materials required. Able to meet U.S. Navy ship rider requirements
- Ability to speak, read, hear and write, with or without assistance
- Ability to travel by car, air or other means of transportation, if required.
