Job description

Role responsibilities will include providing leadership, direction, and support to instrumentation, equipment and systems automation and monitoring, and safety instrumented systems integrity, health, and reliability programs through the evaluation and application of experience, knowledge, technological advancements, applicable Codes and Standards, and industry best practices.

Our Team

INVISTA believes that instrumentation and instrumented systems are key to achieving our long-term goals related to the overall safety, environmental, and economic performance of our facilities. These goals include the transformation of our systems and equipment to a more automated state wherein personnel are transitioned away from the role of serving as sensors and actuators and freed up to focus on higher value-creating efforts.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to identify and manage asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant or business operations.
  • Lead and direct efforts to manage risk to achieve the organization's strategic objectives in the areas of environmental health and safety and asset performance.
  • Emphasize maintaining the integrity of our instrumentation and associated safety systems through the appropriate application of existing and industry best practice work processes. Efforts to include the review and revision of existing work processes, as needed.
  • Review existing practices and methods of monitoring safety, environmental, and process performance. Work with appropriate subject matter experts and associated internal teams to affect transformation to an advanced state based on the appropriate use of monitoring and automation technologies.
  • Identify, evaluate, and champion new technologies and new ways of accomplishing our safety, environmental, reliability, and economic goals.
  • Provide assistance, guidance, and oversight, as needed, for the preparation of specifications, designs, scopes of work, and construction packages for instrument installations, replacements, and upgrades. Efforts may involve control systems (PLC, DCS, etc.), analyzers, transducers, wireless sensors, control valves, and regulators.
  • Develop, update, and maintain applicable reliability strategies and guidance documents and help develop project justifications to address plant reliability concerns and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide SME-level assistance and support, as needed, to site-specific Management of Change (MOC) efforts.
  • Partner with the site and organizational business teams to identify long-term needs and formulate frameworks for action.
  • Take a leadership role and provide mentoring and coaching to less knowledgeable team members in the evaluation and application of safety instrumented systems and associated compliance methods and measures throughout Invista, including acquiring Functional Safety Engineer Certification (TUV).
  • Work with peers and individuals at the various sites to facilitate the adoption, implementation, and updating of industry-leading Reliability Safety Programs and program elements (e.g., SIS, Safety Managers, IPL, SIF, critical alarms, interlocks, burner management systems, etc.).

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Minimum of Bachelor or Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in a Reliability Technical Role in a petrochemical or PSM-covered facility

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Knowledge of facility/process design in tuning, engineering, and PSM standards
  • Previous experience conducting root cause analysis of process control issues, identifying, and implementing corrective actions
  • Previous experience working with plant networks (Server/Clients) and process control hardware
  • Experience with relevant engineering software
  • Previous experience applying statistical tools to identify "Bad Actor" equipment
  • Working knowledge of compliance and engineering standards (NEC, NFPA, API, OSHA, ISA, EPA, etc.)
  • Previous experience leading technical initiatives, troubleshooting, and projects
