Job description

The Pleasants Power Station consists of two 650-megawatt supercritical coal-fired units, boasting advanced scrubber modules and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems to efficiently remove sulfur-dioxide emissions and nitrogen oxides from flue gases.
The facility it is set to undergo a conversion to hydrogen, which will be supplied to the plant through a proprietary process involving the refining of graphite from coal. This approach aims to cater to the Electric Vehicle (EV) industry's needs and enhance the plant's environmental impact.
Opportunity Summary
The I&C Technician oversees the monitoring, troubleshooting, and analysis of station processes, equipment, control systems, and communication networks. Responsibilities include conducting tests on various parameters and equipment, installing, maintaining, and repairing instruments and controls, and troubleshooting problems across relay circuitry and microprocessor-based systems. The technician utilizes technical manuals, vendor contacts, and online resources for efficient troubleshooting. Additionally, the role involves monitoring and modifying the plant DCS, providing technical support for unit outages/startups, and ensuring continuous operational coverage, even during off shifts.
Primary Duties

  • Monitor, investigate, troubleshoot, collect data, analyze, test, make recommendations, and prepare reports on the performance of station processes, equipment, control systems, and communication networks. This work can involve interpreting and analyzing system data and reports, redesigning equipment and systems to rectify issues, and preparing recommendations for process operation, maintenance, or equipment modifications.
  • Conduct various tests to monitor parameters and equipment such as stack emissions, material scales, unit heat rate, turbines, pumps, compressors, fans, condensers, pulverizers, etc.
  • Install, inspect, maintain, repair, and calibrate instruments, gauges, meters, relays, communication equipment, electronic controls, pneumatic controls, and associated equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair problems from relay circuitry through microprocessor-based control systems (PLC and DCS).Utilize equipment technical manuals, equipment
  • vendor contacts, station and outside technical contacts, and online resources to assist with troubleshooting equipment. Read and work from prints, control circuit schematics, DCS and PLC logic, and other equipment functional diagrams.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, maintain, and modify the plant DCS.
  • Provide technical support coverage for unit and equipment outages/startups, including off shifts.

Working Relationships
The I&C Technician reports to the I&C Supervisor.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Must be qualified to wear a respirator. Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in temperature extremes. Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
This position offers a regularly scheduled Monday to Friday work week, with an 8-hour day shift. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.
Compensation
The initial hourly rate of pay will range from $46.35 to $48.60 per hour.
Job Qualifications
  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school.
  • Associates degree in Engineering Technology, Electrical/Electronics/Computer Technology desired, or equivalent career-related experience and skills.
  • Must pass Edison Electric Institute (EEI) POSS/MASS testing.
  • Possess strong analytical troubleshooting skills.
  • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Competency with basic personal computer office software, including Microsoft Windows 10, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc., is required.
  • Possess the ability to safely use all tools and equipment associated with instrumentation and controls maintenance and calibration (meters, basic hand tools, signal generators).
  • Possess the ability to read and understand technical manuals, instructions, and prints/drawings.
  • Work experience in power plant systems is desirable but not required.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLC and Emerson Ovation DCS equipment is desirable but not required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
