The Lordstown Energy Center in Warren, OH, has a robust power generation system with two Siemens SGT6-8000H CT combustion turbines and air-cooled generators. It features NEM three-pressure reheat horizontal gas flow heat recovery steam generators, a Siemens SST6-5000 condensing turbine, and an SGen6-2000H Hydrogen-cooled generator for a triple-pressure combined cycle. Efficiency and reliability are enhanced by a 14-cell cooling tower, advanced emissions controls, an auxiliary boiler, and three Dresser Rand reciprocating fuel gas compressors.
Opportunity Summary
The Instrumentation Controls and Electrical (IC&E) Technician assumes responsibility for maintaining and repairing instruments, control systems, and Electrical equipment within the power plant and its associated facilities. This role involves highly skilled work encompassing the inspection, repair, testing, adjustment, installation, and removal of all electronic and Electrical power plant equipment and systems. Operating under the general guidance of the Maintenance Manager and in collaboration with the O&M services contract, the IC&E Technician oversees technical activities related to instrumentation and control, as well as electrical systems.
Primary Job Duties
- Conduct preventive maintenance duties on all major equipment and systems, including emergency backup systems.
- Conduct instrument calibrations, field checks, troubleshooting, and maintenance on control equipment or other equipment as assigned.
- Inspect, repair, install, and remove all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, storage batteries, and work with electrical systems, including those up to 6900 volts.
- Conduct troubleshooting and analysis on Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and turbine control equipment.
- Maintain complete equipment files, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment.
- Participate in updating and organizing the administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals.
- Conduct and evaluate performance plant tests.
- Maintain all plant instrumentation and Electrical test equipment.
- Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) system to plan and review preventative, predictive, and pre-emptive type maintenance work.
- Maintain and install control, monitoring, alarm, and indicating systems and their individual components. This includes, but is not limited to, protective relays, turbine controls, voltage regulators, inverters and battery charger controls, motors, lighting, and grounding.
- Perform maintenance on 6900-volt and 480-volt equipment, breakers, and switchgear.
- Perform upkeep of the maintenance management systems, DCS and PLC, and other administrative tasks as assigned.
- Maintain all facility equipment through corrective, predictive, and planned activities.
- Monitor projects related to schedule, manpower, material needs, and safety as assigned.
- Troubleshoot equipment and systems and provide/perform corrective action. Perform failure analysis to determine the cause of equipment/system malfunction.
- Identify design improvements and/or problems; recommend and install modifications necessary for resolution.
- Implement safe working practices and immediately identify hazards and recommend and/or implement repairs.
- Train others to gain knowledge as required. Provide training (safety and I&C) to new hires as needed.
- Coordination of contractors and vendors, including but not limited to; development of work packages/scope of work, work authorization forms, pre-job briefs, permits, observation of the work performance, enforcing adherence to safety policies and practices, and stopping work when needed.
- Assists in the investigation of plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events; provides input and recommendations for incident reports and follow-up plans.

Working Relationships
The IC&E Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager, works in cooperation with the operating utility on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the plant and responds to direction from the Plant Manager in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements encompass standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Some duties necessitate the use of protective equipment, including hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, high-voltage protective equipment, arc flash suits, etc. Work with hazardous materials may be required, and there are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
In the power plant environment, tasks include working outdoors in all climates and temperatures, working in and around rotating equipment, high-voltage electrical equipment, high-noise areas, and at high elevations. There may be work in confined spaces, some requiring the use of respiratory protective equipment. Work may be required in conditions where hazardous materials and/or toxic fumes could be present, with exposure to areas of high heat, steam, combustible gases, and other conditions normally encountered in an operating generation facility
Fitness for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
Regular work schedule is from Monday to Friday during regular day shift hours. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.
Compensation
Initial compensation starts at $45.48 per hour and will increase to $47.76 per hour once qualified.
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma with a demonstrated ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the assigned area, typically acquired over four years of high school education.
- Associate degree or certification in the electrical or controls field, or graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program is preferred.
- Two or more years of experience as an industrial electrician or I&C Technician in a power plant environment is necessary.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Mainsaver.
- Proficiency in working with voltages up to 6900 volts, including knowledge of large generators, transformers, 6900/480-volt switchgear and systems, instruments, controls, and relaying equipment.
- Ability to work from blueprints and read and understand P&IDs and Electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Proficient use of standard test equipment.
- Demonstrated skills in electrical troubleshooting, instrument calibration, and programming complex electrical equipment.
- Ability to work well with others, be self-directed, and apply creative solutions to unique IC&E problems is desirable.
- Strong verbal communication, written communication, and organizational skills.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License at all times.
