Job description

The Fremont Energy Center is a 540 MW natural gas-fired generating station with a 2 x 1 configuration, offering operational flexibility and efficiency. Notably, it has 163 MW of duct-firing capacity, allowing for increased electricity production by utilizing exhaust heat from the gas turbines. As a reliable and adaptable power generation facility, the Fremont Energy Center plays a crucial role in meeting the region's energy demands and ensures a stable electricity supply.

Opportunity Summary

The Instrumentation Controls and Electrical (IC&E) Technician oversees the maintenance and repair of all instruments, control systems, and Electrical equipment in the power plant and associated facilities. This role demands high-level skills for tasks such as inspecting, repairing, testing, adjusting, installing, and safely removing electronic and Electrical components. The technician's expertise is pivotal in ensuring the optimal functioning of the power plant's instrumentation and Electrical infrastructure. In essence, the IC&E Technician plays a vital role in upholding the efficiency and reliability of the power plant's diverse systems.

Primary Job Duties

  • Execute preventive maintenance on major equipment, systems, and emergency backup systems.
  • Organize and maintain comprehensive equipment files, logs, and drawings for designated equipment.
  • Collaborate in managing spare parts inventory to enhance plant reliability, including assistance in physical inventories.
  • Participate in the administrative upkeep of plant operating manuals, technical references, prints, diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
  • Inspect, repair, install, and remove motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries, while working with electrical systems up to 4160 volts.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and analysis on Distributed Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), and turbine control equipment.
  • Sustain all plant instrumentation and Electrical test equipment.
  • Support and actively participate in the NAES Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs.
  • Fulfill other assigned tasks as directed by the O&M Manager or Plant Manager.

The IC&E Technician may also take on the additional responsibility of Maintenance Coordinator/Planner for the site. This collateral assignment is given to a selected maintenance department technician to assist the O&M Manager in the routine planning and coordination of site equipment maintenance.

These duties include:

  • Plan and review preventative, predictive, and pre-emptive maintenance activities.
  • Utilize a more in-depth knowledge and proficiency in the CMMS system for effective review and planning, supporting the O&M Manager in weekly work routines.
  • Coordinate efforts to ensure scheduled weekly routines and preventative maintenance are documented as complete once confirmed by the respective maintenance technician.
  • Provide crucial coordination support for the O&M Manager to effectively supervise and direct maintenance technicians.

Working Relationships

The IC&E Technician reports to the O&M Manager, works in cooperation with the operating utility on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the plant, and responds to direction from the Plant Manager in the absence of the O&M Manager.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.).  Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

Regular work schedule is Monday to Friday, during regular day shift hours. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

Compensation

Initial compensation will range from $34.96 to $45.57 per hour

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma with a demonstrated ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the assigned area, typically acquired over four years of high school education.
    Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program and a minimum of two years of work experience as a technician in a related industry are desirable.
  • Alternatively, four years of work experience as a technician in a related industry with increasing responsibility may be substituted for the above requirement.
  • Highly desirable skills include experience in working with voltages up to 4160 volts and the ability to work from blueprints
  • Ability to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as apply creative solutions to unique IC&E problems is desirable
  • Proven experience in conducting troubleshooting and analysis on Distributed Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), and turbine control equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge of control systems and instrumentation principles.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power-driven tools, excellent organizational skills, and strong personal computer skills are essential.
  • Must have excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License at all times.
