The Instrument Technician team maintains and calibrates all instruments and related equipment pertaining to flows, levels, pressures, process control, PLC and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.

WaterOne provides competitive benefits and compensation ranges. Selected candidates are placed in the position’s pay range based on their qualifications.

Pay Range starts from $30.43/hr and up depending on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and calibrates instruments with emphasis on the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) equipment and related devices.
  • Responsible for maintenance of process related instrumentation, chemical feed, process control and other related water treatment and distribution equipment.
  • Maintains record of all maintenance activity as directed.
  • Responsible for installing and maintaining electronic Remote Terminal Unit equipment including but not limited to PLC hardware and their associated communications network.
  • Monitors circuitry of leased telephone lines, Ethernet, fiber and wireless networks used for data communications from remote locations to the Hansen Treatment Facility.
  • Coordinates and assists outside contractors and Facilities Engineering in the installation, configuration and programming of new electronic instrumentation devices.
  • Maintains all chlorine feed instrument equipment, chlorine leak detecting and chlorine application control equipment.
  • Maintains an inventory of parts, equipment, and tools on an assigned WaterOne vehicle.
  • Installs and maintains all Instrumentation equipment related to pressure relief valve vault site locations in coordination with distribution personnel.
  • Maintains and calibrates confined space gas monitors per manufacture specifications.
  • Performs checkout and startup on all new instrumentation related equipment installations.
  • Perform all duties pertaining to hazardous waste operations in accordance with all applicable requirements.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Required Education, Skills & Experience

  • High school graduate or have a GED.
  • Requires two years’ experience maintaining and calibrating instrumentation and related equipment.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, process control and Remote Terminal Unit equipment.
  • Requires good basic math skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand blueprints, technical schematics and technical manuals.
  • Possess basic skills in plumbing, mechanics and electricity.
  • Proficient in computers and basic computer applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Follow detailed instructions properly.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.
  • Communicate well in English both orally and in writing. Must be a good listener.
  • Be aware of principles and practices to effectively control occupational hazards associated with the job.
  • Have experience with or have the ability to learn and apply all applicable requirements pertaining to hazardous waste operations.
  • Be available for occasional emergency call-out or scheduled overtime.
  • Must pass post offer medical exam, including drug screen and background verification (may not apply to current employees).

Preferred Education, Skills & Experience

  • Associates Degree in an industrial technology or vocational training in electronics, hydraulics, or pneumatics.
  • Experience and knowledge with PLC applications, hardware, and programming.
  • Experience with an enterprise asset management system such as SAP.

The employee must be able to use a computer for multiple hours a day. The employee must be able to move occasionally from one location to another or be able to remain in a stationary position for up to several hours a day. The employee must be able to use office productivity equipment such as a personal computer, calculator, printer, and copy machine. The employee must be in possession of a licenses and be able to operate a vehicle at any given time. The employee must be able to occasionally position self to inspect, repair, install and remove various items. The employee must be able to distinguish colors.
