THE OPPORTUNITY
The Instrument Technician works to maintain the electrical, instrumentation, and process control equipment in a manufacturing setting. This includes general maintenance, monitoring, calibration, repair, and troubleshooting. This position reports to the maintenance department supervisor. Work schedule is day shift, 4 on / 4. The plant runs 24/7, so this position requires an on-call rotation to assist the plant on off-hours.
Key responsibilities: Instrument Technician
  • Perform instrument/electrical plant equipment maintenance and troubleshooting work as directed by the maintenance department supervisor or production supervisor.
  • In general, equipment to be worked on includes: motors & VFDs; variety of transmitters (flow, temperature, pressure, pH); automated valves; low voltage electrical distribution; PLCs; 4-20 control loops; automated packaging system.
  • Understand, and abide by, all safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
  • Work closely with production and other maintenance personnel to ensure good communication and cooperation.
  • Communicate with vendors and 3rd party technicians.
  • Provide documentation of performed work per plant work order procedures.
  • Attend plant and outside training sessions as directed by plant management.
  • Prepare plant equipment and equipment parts requisitions.
  • Perform site audits.

ABOUT YOU
  • The position requires a high school diploma.
  • This position requires that the individual has the ability to communicate technically with maintenance supervisor.
  • The desire, and experience, to problem solve and troubleshoot instrumentation is a must.
  • The desire to understand and follow safety practices is a must.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and equipment manuals.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution and motor control circuits.
  • Knowledge of control systems.
  • Safety - must be conscientious about doing things safely.
  • Team atmosphere attitude.
  • Attitude of doing things right the first time.
  • Take pride in own work.
  • Capable of using computer, good spelling and grammar for computerized maintenance work order system.
