TITLE: Instructor of Adult English Language Learners (ESL)- PART-TIME
LOCATION: Urbana Adult Education Center
HOURS: varies; up to 599 hours/year; 6-8 hours/week; evenings may be required
SUPERVISOR: Director of Urbana Adult Education
SUPERVISES: N/A
JOB SUMMARY: The ESL teacher will demonstrate the knowledge, creativity, organizational skills and cultural understanding necessary to successfully implement a five skills, content-based ESL curriculum, assisting our immigrant adult learners to improve the English language skills
necessary for increased success in personal, work or higher education endeavors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

EVALUATION: To be completed by the Director using the district's evaluation instrument.
SALARY RANGE: $31-$36/hour
START DATE: August 2022

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- Plan lessons that incorporate all ESL skill areas (reading, writing, listening, speaking, mathematics) and meet Illinois ESL Content Standards
- Conduct direction instruction of 10-25 students per class
- Informally assess students and adjust instruction accordingly
- Assist with formal, standardized ESL assessments
- Complete follow-up support for assigned students
- Maintain accurate attendance records and provide outreach to students who have frequent absences.
- Collaborate with colleagues and the director and strive to problem solve barriers to teaching and learning
- Participate in staff meetings and staff development opportunities
- Acquire at least 12 hours of professional development activities per year
- Consistently communicate with the director regarding strengths and needs of the ESL program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Qualified candidates must possess one of the following:
- ESL Endorsement on K-12 state teaching license
- Masters of TESOL
- ESL Certificate from a recognized institution of higher education
- Able to build rapport with students with diverse backgrounds and learning needs
- Classroom management
- Strong organization skills
- Knowledge of computer applications, including Google applications and video conferencing platforms
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Standards-based curriculum development
- Peer observation and conferencing skills
- Knowledge of subject matter
- Planning for instruction
- Delivery of instruction
- Assessment of student performance
EVALUATION: To be completed by the Director using the district's evaluation instrument.
