Instructional Designer

TorranceLearning is leading the design & development of a large curriculum of self-paced elearning for a critical Federal agency initiative. We are seeking 2-3 experienced & innovative Instructional Designers to complement our existing team of developers and xAPI specialists.

Job Details:

• Pay rate $55-65/hour, 1099 basis
• Contract duration: April – October 2024, with the potential for extension
• Weekly hours: 24-48 hours based on project phase and response from client (weekly hours are not guaranteed)
• This is a nearly full-time remote position, with all work to be completed within the United States.
• This project runs on Eastern time zone business hours
• This role requires your daytime attention so you can collaborate with your team members and the client in real time.

Please Note: You must be able to secure or transfer a Public Trust clearance before the commencement of the contract. This requires fingerprinting and a detailed US federal government background check.

Working on this team …

• You will engage on multiple aspects of this fast-paced project, with responsibility for 2-6 modules in varying stages at any given time. We use our LLAMA® Agile project management methods for our work, which means you can plan on a highly collaborative, iterative workflow.
• You will be responsible for the instructional design of elearning modules and virtual classroom training in collaboration with a course development team that will bring them to life in the authoring tool. You will:
• Design learning objectives and outcomes
• Partner with the client’s SMEs to create an outline and a storyboard for modules
• Select the most effective instructional methods for each module using adult learning principles and sound instructional practices
• Design practical application activities including scenarios, role-plays, and simulations
• Write scripts for elearning voiceover
• Write scripts and storyboards for video scenarios
• Make edits to materials following internal and client reviews
• Collaborate with course developer on the selection of media and the design of complex interactions
• Design and develop facilitator, producer, and participant materials
• Participate in QA reviews of your own and others’ work on the team
• Work within and contribute to the project’s design & development standards
• Maintain source materials and final content in a shared location to be used for future development needs
• Attend weekly project planning meetings
• Communicate consistently with the Project Manager

What You Bring to the Role

Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of professional instructional design for adults in a workplace setting
• Design and development of mobile-first learning products
• Experience designing for dominKnow Flow, Articulate Storyline, and other elearning authoring tools (you will not need to develop in these tools, but you do need to know what they’re capable of)
• Familiarity with SCORM and xAPI data standards (you will not need to develop the data tracking for these courses, but you will need to identify the data that should be captured)
• Experience working in an Agile instructional design environment (LLAMA® is a bonus, but not required)

Skills

• Collaborate effectively with SMEs and teammates in written and verbal settings
• Develop and refine assessment items for learning objectives
• Quickly develop an elearning script and storyboard ready to hand off to client and then to developer partner
• Pay detailed attention & proofread your work
• Prioritize business requests and self-manage workload and timelines
• Use the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) with a high degree of proficiency
• Actively contribute to a positive work environment that fosters team performance.

• This project will kick off with a multi-day onsite team orientation in Michigan in April. As part of that onboarding, you will take our Foundations of LLAMA®: Agile Project Management for Instructional Design course.
