The Contra Costa County Probation Department is pleased to announce a recruitment to fill one vacancy for Institutional Services Worker. This is an excellent career opportunity for individuals who would like to expand their qualifying experience in the field of Probation. The assignment will be in Central Contra Costa County working in the field and juvenile institutions performing janitorial services.
Institutional Services Worker – Generalists work in the Juvenile Hall for the Probation Department. They can also work in the Environmental Services Department or Nutrition Services Department within the Health Services Division of Contra Costa County. The current vacancy is in the Probation Department.
The ideal candidate for this position will be organized and effective at time management, capable of carrying out tasks that demand smart allocation of resources. Additionally, the candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, ensuring a safe and sanitary workplace for all. They will maintain a positive and respectful attitude while working alongside internal staff and the public.

What you will typically be responsible for:
  • Sweeping, wet mopping, and vacuuming floors

  • Cleaning and restocking restrooms
  • Moving and emptying garbage cans
  • Overseeing the destruction of confidential paperwork
  • Setting a night alarm
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future openings for up to six (6) months.

The Institutional Services Worker classification is a Countywide classification. There is currently a vacancy in the Probation Department, however, if additional positions become available in other departments, the resulting eligible list may be used.

Minimum Qualifications

License Required: Possession of a Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License is required at the Specialist and Lead Levels.
Experience:
Either one (1) year full-time or its equivalent experience in the class of Institutional Services Aide in Contra Costa County or one (1) year of full-time or its equivalent institutional cleaning or food service experience.

Selection Process

1. Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.
2.Training and Experience Evaluation: At the time of filing, within the supplemental questionnaire, candidates will be required to complete a training and experience questionnaire. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications, as described above, will have their training and experience responses evaluated. The training and experience questionnaire is designed to measure the candidate’s relevant education, training, and/or experience as it relates to the Institutional Services Worker classification (Weighted 100%).

CONVICTION HISTORY

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
