The American Immigration Council works to strengthen America by shaping how America thinks about and acts towards immigrants and immigration and by working toward a more fair and just immigration system that opens its doors to those in need of protection and unleashes the energy and skills that immigrants bring. The Council brings together individuals adept at solving problems and employs four coordinated approaches to advance change—litigation, research, legislative and administrative advocacy, and communications.

Your Role. . .

The Institutional Giving Manager works closely with the Director of Institutional Giving to prospect, cultivate, and manage funding relationships with foundations, corporations, and chapters of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. They will collaborate with senior staff to develop compelling pitches to secure new funding for both general operations and programmatic projects, while retaining and growing existing foundation support.

As with all positions at the Council, this position requires commitment to the Council’s mission and the organization’s culture of philanthropy.

Essential Job Functions. . .

  • Manage relationships with foundations and corporations, working closely with the Director of Institutional Giving to implement a stewardship and growth strategy. Project manage and track partnership deliverables to ensure seamless execution.
  • Support strategy and lead outreach for sponsorships for the Council’s annual fundraising events.
  • Support strategy for engaging local chapters of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the Council’s sister organization, in our programs and fundraising.
  • Identify, research, and conduct outreach to new corporate and foundation prospects for funding. Collaborate with the Director of Institutional Giving and the Council’s senior staff to leverage their networks and develop innovative pitches and partnership models.
  • Draft funding LOIs, concept papers, proposals, applications, and status reports, collaborating closely with Development, Program, and Finance staff to create materials.
  • Liaise between funders and internal teams to support alignment on shared vision, goals, and projects – while navigating any challenges that may arise with a positive, solutions-orientation.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Institutional Giving to design systems, processes, and collateral to support fundraising.
  • Monitor funder/foundation sector trends and news, and announcements.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or related field or
  • 3+ (three plus) years of related experience
  • Demonstrable and working knowledge of 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations - and nonprofit sector.
