Job description

Basic Function

Conducts inspection duties and assignments for the Inspection Department under close supervision. 

Job Duties

(functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Works to ensure integrity of piping, equipment, and atmospheric storage tanks
  • Works to ensure company records comply with Regulatory requirements
  • Provides suggestions and/or support to help the plant run more efficiently
  • Generates inspection memos
  • Assists in maintaining a complete database of equipment information
  • Maintains department equipment and instruments
  • Performs tests under close supervision with appropriate level of training - depending on location; NDE: formal testing such as UT, PT, MT, VT (as recognized by ASNT); hardness, PMI, and infrared thermography
  • Participates in special emphasis projects as assigned by the Inspection manager; level of participation may vary
  • May perform weld inspections depending on location

 

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of two years of related experience in inspection, welding, maintenance, operations, or engineering is required.

Education Level

A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Required Skills

Working knowledge of inspection methods and ability to apply this knowledge as it pertains to the company. Certifications to Level II UT, PT, MT, and VT along with other specialty training may be required while in the position depending on location. Computer program familiarity including MS Office suite. Intermediate reading and writing skills, ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations, and with the ability to effectively communicate with others.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:
Special training in infrared camera operation, image evaluation, along with additional NDE certifications, Level 1 Infrared Thermography depending on location and prior refinery experience are preferred.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
Work Conditions

Office and field based and with up to 5% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, out-of-doors environment, and driver based environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, and tanks, rotating equipment, exposure to the risk of electrical shock, and working in confined spaces. Subject to all temperatures, weather, and varying road conditions.  

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying up to 40lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 40 lbs, climbing up to 180 ft, perceive color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment including respirator as needed (beards not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid State driver’s license and proof of insurance required, and strenuous physical activity.
