Job Summary

In this supervisory position you will be accountable for the Inspection Team members and inspection throughput in a fast-paced Manufacturing Plant. You will lead a team working collaboratively to meet customer and production quality and delivery expectations.  You will focus on World Class Inspection and Metrology standards, monitoring performance indicators, and ensuring adherence to Safety and Human Resources guidelines while fostering the development of your team and each individual team member.

 

Key Duties

  • Lead and manage the direct workforce. Serve as a role model by demonstrating a constant focus on improving customer satisfaction and operational performance. Lead by example and establish a culture of excellence and accountability.

 

  • Establish and achieve weekly / monthly goals as measured by the following KPI.

 

  • First Piece Inspection Reduction
  • Dock-to-Stock (reduced inspection)
  • 6S

 

  • Coordinate resources and equipment to support daily shipments, receiving and in process inspections.

 

  • Identify best inspection practices opportunities and implement.

 

  • Identify hiring needs. Participate in the interview process, new hire selection and on boarding.

 

  • Responsible for cross training, development, evaluation, performance management and retention of inspection staff.

 

  • Work with or lead continuous improvement teams to identify opportunities and drive results.

 

  • Sustain clean, organized inspection areas using 6S techniques

 

  • Participate in the development of inspection methodology for customer prototypes to insure successful manufacturing introductions.

 

  • Partner with quality engineering to ensure quality requirements for receiving, in process, and final inspections are understood, adhered to and fully implemented.

 

  • Be an active MRB participant. Investigate and address in a timely manner any inspection issues resulting from the QC tag process.

 

  • Drive CAPAs associated with inspection failures to ensure that any findings or non-conformances are addressed quickly.

 

 

 

  • Be an advocate for safety. Insist on safe practices throughout the inspection areas.

 

  • Ensure that inspection operations are in compliance with all government regulations related to product safety, employee safety, and environmental standards including OSHA and EPA

 

  • Represent Quality and participate in customer visits and customer source activities when required.
  • Responsible for managing the execution of all new and delta FAI’s
  • Responsible for pricing FAI’s at Contract Review
  • Responsible for training, supervising, and delegating FAI projects to Boyd’s Quality Administrator. This supervisory responsibility is only for FAI related tasks. Boyd’s Quality Administrator will continue to report to the Quality Manager.
  • Responsible for in-process first piece inspection (FPI) (Procedure 8.02.08 Procedure for Obtaining a First Piece) including:
    • Training Factory Personal on inspection techniques and inspection tool use
    • Managing Production Inspection Tooling
  • As a leader of the Boyd Inspection team, perform additional duties as required.

Education / Background

  • Five years minimum prior experience as a Quality Supervisor/Inspection Supervisor in a fast-paced machining environment
  • High degree of knowledge of blueprint reading, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), metrology, complex inspection methods and CMM programing and operation (PC-DMIS)
  • BS in an Engineering discipline a plus
  • S. Citizenship status is required.

 

Reporting

The Quality Supervisor plays a key role within the Boyd organization. The Quality Supervisor is a member of the Quality team reporting to the Quality Manager.
