Form of workThe Information Technology Specialist provides on-site support to users with hardware and software problems, maintains computing equipment and user applications, trains and educates users on hardware and software operation, and maintains citywide computer networks.
Education / higher education: AA Degree
For required college degrees, applicable field(s) of study: Personal computer or network support
Minimum number of years of directly related experience: Two years. In lieu of a degree, incumbent must possess four years of relevant experience.

Preferred certifications, licenses or registrations: A+, Network+ MCSA, MCSE, ITIL or other equivalent certifications
Knowledge: Knowledge and skills in the support and maintenance of micro-computing equipment and software applications to include word processing, spreadsheets, internal communications, database, Windows operating system, e-mail and Internet access. Desktop OS and office productivity applications.
Skills: Must be able to type rapidly and accurately enough to successfully produce documents/spreadsheets, communicate via e-mail, or perform data entry as necessary to accomplish the essential functions of the position. Use of technology, equipment and software typically used in the office environment. Skills in PC hardware and component-level troubleshooting.
Abilities: Exercise initiative, independent judgment and independent problem solving. Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees. Use math concepts to present data in charts, graphs, and presentations. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Interaction with Groups/Agencies/Entities: Internal: Works with department staff, supervisors or managers on computer technology problems and modifications and special projects. Maintains harmonious, courteous, and understanding relationships, while fostering a collaborative teamwork environment. External: Interacts with vendors to receive computing equipment and resolves problems as required. Presents a friendly and courteous image for the City with vendors, contractors, public officials, and the general public

- Performs technology repairs resource, computer, telephone and network.
- Maintains software programs and provides upgrades to City computers to include all off-site City buildings.
- Troubleshoots problems and researches methods for solutions.
- Researches new ideas, innovations and technologies to benefit the City computer system.
- Assist with servers, domains, network, and routers configuration.
- Trains users and provides technical support and assistance on hardware and software features.
- Assist with the installation, support and maintenance of all city computing equipment, software and peripherals.
- Assist with the maintenance of citywide computer networks and troubleshoots network problems across the City.
- Set ups multimedia; projectors, TVs, and etc.
- Is knowledgeable about and able to create/run and maintain cabling.
