Reporting to the Senior Director of IT, the Information Technology Senior Manager, manages all aspects of the Brown Physicians Information Systems, Networks, IT Devices, and Telecommunications Systems. The Information Technology Manager oversees BPI IT systems security and works in collaboration with the Senior Director of IT to ensure that BPI systems are secure and in appropriate compliance with industry best practice and regulations. The Information Technology Senior Manager regularly assesses the working environment and proactively identifies and recommends technical, administrative, workflow, or physical measures in order to protect confidential information.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Consistently applies the BPI values of patient care priority, dignity, collaboration, integrity and quality in support of the BPI mission to deliver compassionate, high-quality patient care, research excellence and outstanding physician education. Responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the BPI Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.
  • Consistently practices the BPICustomer Service Standards.
  • Oversees'Manages the day-to-day management activities of BPI IT staff including all tasks related to BPI project participation and future Brown Physicians Inc IT initiatives. A high priority is placed on physician'clinician initiatives, support, and physician'staff satisfaction projects.
  • Provides leadership in design engineering of enterprise-wide Network systems to provide optimized applications and communications performance, transport, and availability across the BPI local area, wide area, wireless, and extranet network locations.
  • Collaborates on design and implementation projects involving next generation network technologies, including communications convergence and virtualization of service delivery. Designs architectural integrity (end to end) for successful implementation of new technologies. Provides expert level support to other network'administrator personnel within the team.
  • Leads'Manages projects to evaluate, test, select, and implement network hardware, software, and strategies for achieving security, high availability, and flexibility in all aspects of network delivery, including routers, switches, network appliances, wireless, application content management, and performance management/monitoring.
  • Performs network planning in all levels of network technologies, including convergence and virtualization technologies and competitive WAN connectivity protocols, to maximize return on investment.
  • Ensures best practice change management processes for all BPI technologies and network systems.


ADDITIONAL DUTIES AS REQUIRED

  • Oversees configuration and firmware/software process for enterprise-wide routers, switches, communications appliances, and wide area network to maintain consistent configuration in keeping with vendor recommendations for patch level and error/bug handling. Manages as required and directs staff to maintain network, systems, and telecommunications hardware and software, including servers, switches, routers, peripherals, and wiring.
  • Responsible for maintaining documentation, drawings, designs, and configurations for WAN, LAN, WLAN, and VPN architecture throughout BPI Collaborate and contribute to all BPI IT audit requirements as required.
  • Acts as resource BPI IT department, system vendors, business partners, and other personnel with problem identification and resolution in all enterprise-wide network technologies.
  • Assists in determining the needs, structure, staffing and systems required to deliver world class IT services and network-based voice/data/video communications capabilities to all BPI practices.
  • Promotes cost-saving, “green” technologies by investigating and implementing all opportunities for virtualization of network resources.
  • Provides support for all BPI strategic and tactical projects, where network support'management is required.
  • Acts as liaison to all BPI technology users, external organizations, and business partners about the effective operation of network data/voice communications systems. Works with stakeholders to analyze needs, consider alternatives and develop cost effective solutions.
  • Establishes benchmark criteria on utilization of all enterprise-wide Wide Area and Local Area network services equipment. Recommends and implements actions necessary to meet the service level requirements of organization.
  • Participates in committees, Physician meetings, Clinical Support Staff meetings, IT meetings, and teams as required.
  • Provides upper management with the following as required: new technology demonstrations and education; feasibility studies; practice needs and requirements; project plans; implementation strategies; budgetary and cost analysis; task preparedness; progress reports; documented customer feedback; and monthly 1on1 review as required.
  • Establishes access and system controls and automates monitors and alerts whenever feasible to proactively protect information assets. Responds quickly to system outages to initiate recovery, minimize downtime, and optimize performance.
  • Participates and contributes to annual'BPI IT Budget process.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with physicians, clinical staff, vendors, outside consultants and service providers.
  • Participates in Disaster Recovery planning and testing.
  • Develop and supports end user education for access to and protection of information assets.
  • Participates as a team member and responds to Help Desk service requests related to networks, systems, or telecommunications.
  • Participates in the configuration and deployment of new hardware. Tracks and records inventory as needed.
  • Maintains up-to-date technical knowledge by attending seminars, vendor presentations and reading professional literature. Demonstrates self-direction related to professional development. Maintains knowledge of industry developments in systems and hardware and incorporates new developments into the future systems required by'BPI.
  • Participates in developing IT Policies, standards, practices, and security measures on system use and services, to endure effective and consistent operations and to safeguard information resources.


BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

  • Candidate must demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of information services and technology systems, infrastructure and management, preferably in a complex healthcare environment such as a large physician practice, hospital/hospital network or similar environment.
  • The candidate must be knowledgeable of operations, services, and activities of a comprehensive Information Technology program.
  • Demonstrate advanced principles and practices of computer science and information systems application. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office automation tools.
  • Knowledge of structure and utilization of electronic-medical record applications, network environment, and security infrastructure, as well as email, intranet, and other application types utilized by the organization.
  • Must possess knowledge of best-practice principles and methodologies of IT program development, upgrade, and administration.
  • Understand complex network systems, security measures, tools, policies and practices, theories, concepts, principles, and practices of new and emerging technologies. Experience with IT concepts, principles, and practices of information system/organizational strategic planning.
  • Verifiable expertise in developing IT, planning, project management, and leading cross-functional teams with a proven track record of success.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently handling multiple projects and changing priorities with competing demands for resources in a fast-paced environment.
  • Candidate must demonstrate high-level communication and interpersonal skills with a service-oriented approach to quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated critical-thinking, analytical decision making and problem-solving skills. Comprehensive industry knowledge along with a detailed understanding of technical aspects of areas of responsibility.


EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor of Science in Information Systems/Management or related field or related experience. MBA preferred or a demonstrated combination of equivalent education and experience. A minimum of (2-5) years progressively responsible experience working in a complex information services environment (strongly preferred in healthcare organizations) including supervisory experience, managing a wide array of aspects of information systems, such as applications and systems, network infrastructure, helpdesk operations, control environments, privacy and security management, and system/software design, implementation and management.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The noise level in the work environment is consistent with a business environment in an open-office layout, with staff, visitors, and temporary staff. Ability to handle multiple, changing, and sometimes conflicting priorities in an independent fashion using good judgment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally is exposed to outside weather conditions when traveling to BPI practice sites, etc.

This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and some light work and lifting requiring the exertion of up to 40 pounds occasionally; work requires stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, standing, fingering, grasping and repetitive motions; vocal communication, hearing, and visual acuity. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock
